CDR Valve Test

I did the CDR Valve test on my truck using a 3/8 clear hose. At idle it wasn't pulling any water up in the tube that I could tell but at 2000 RPM's it was pulling between 1/2 and 1 inch. So does it need replaced?
Thanks,
Bob

that's where I found the test I just wasn't sure about the result since it didn't seem to pull any water up in the tube at idle. Heath's blog states it should pull between 1/16 an 1/2 inch at idle and between 1/2 and 1 inch at 2000 RPM's.

The mystery part, mine pulled a bit at idle and a inch or more at 2000 rpm but I still wondered if it was working I would like to pull one apart some day and see how they work. One thing I did when I had it out is from the turbo side I put a clean cloth over the end and sucked and felt the diapham inside move and there was a small bleed hole on the canister that if I put my finger over it while sucking, then stop sucking it it did hold the vacumn until I released my finger off the bleed hole. So I think mine is working the way it should. If it didn't hold the vacumn I would say the diapham is torn or has a hole in it.

Using a K&N filter, or the like that allows alot of air flow at little resistance will effect the CDR's performance.

The CDR will act differently at idle, than at load going down the road. Increased boost will pull more air through the system. The CDR takes advantage of the pressure drop across the air filter. Increased flow, is more pressure drop, which is more vacuum to "create." If you duplicate your CDR test while going down the road, you'll see spikes of 6" WC sometimes before it comes back down again. Depending upon how tight your engine is....

Engine has 293,000 miles on it and the CDR has never been changed. It's pretty greasy around the CDR and the hose that routes to the air intake so I thought I should check it. If it aint broke there are several other things that are and need fixing so I will leave it be.

That many miles, I'm wondering if the CDR may not be able to keep up with engine wear. If you are starting to have more blow-by than the CDR can overcome, than she's open all the way and can't give the rated vacuum level.
