85 Parisienne 6.2 ?? Maybe?

This car has been sitting for 7 years now and I'm ready to rebuild the carb. Was thinking with the sequence of events maybe since the suburban and C10 are both now parts trucks I should put a 6.2 in it instead? I have a Good TH400 from a 6.2 short bus sitting and can easily rebuild the fuel system and exhaust. I'm a novice welder that can get things done so looking for insight from the crew here. I saw a caprice swap a few years back but the outcome was unclear. I think that was into a whale caprice though. Anybody know if a 400 will fit without modifying the floor and will the 6.2 fit without chopping up the frame too much? I can obviously take measurements but wanted to ask first. Here's the car. I painted it semi flat black about 8 years ago its been in storage since.

15 VW Golf wagon, TDI. Did the buyback on my 13 Jetta TDI wagon so it was basically a trade up.
96 Burb K25 3.42's SOLD at 340K miles, told it was all original, close race between engine wearing out or body completely rust out.

Believe the pontiac parisienne only came with oldsmobile 5.7L diesel... maybe if they ever went from RWD to FWD after1982 they did the 4.3L V6..?? Maybe.

On the bright side... the 4.3, 5.0, 5.7, 6.2 and 6.5 use the same basic dimensions for motor mounts and mounting. May have some pan clearance tho... but nothing a little bit of wont fix...

I agree with bigboytoys... a 6.x swap is ALWAYS the right answer. Lol

... and I think its pretty cool too... keep us posted on the progress!

Did a bit of short research...

It should have come with a th350 or th400(bets on the 400) but considering it was a car... with a gasser?? It may be a th350...

I do happen to have a th400 I'm willing to part ways with... itll just give me an excuse to pull it out of my 85 d10

then the wife cant complain.... it was for a good dieselplace cause... "... but its important!!!!"

Maybe some of our Canadian members can better explain the Parisienne cars. My understanding was that they typically were a unique to and built in Canada top of the line Pontiac. I believe that they were the top of the line GM car built outside of the US. One of their unique features is they were Pontiac styled body panels fit to a Chevy chassis. Apparently this was done to save money, that way they could get 2 models off the same line.

By the time of the car in question I suspect it was that they already shut down and or converted the US plant(s) to build smaller cars so they just imported Canadian models for the few sales of the old full size RWD cars those last few years.

Where did it say those would have come with a THM400? That would seem very unlikely even being a outside the USA model. After 76 the 400 wasn't a common transmission to come in a car. Many cases you were lucky to get a THM350 in the late 70's. They put the THM200 in a lot of full size cars back then. In 81 they 200 4r came out. 82 it became the standard transmission for the remaining RWD cars. You occasionally got a 350 or 250 but the 4r was the most common likely due to overdrive.

One reason they quit using the 400 was it wasn't a very efficient design. It ate up some horsepower. Not a problem in the 60's when it was designed but by the late 70's there wasn't any power to spare.

car-part doesn't show them ever coming with a th400, just th350, th700 and 200

I figured that maybe a wagon would have a th400 but they don't

but the some of the th350's came with the multi fit case so if it's one these you could use it.

if it's a th200 more than likely it's gonna have a BOP (Buick, Olds, Pontiac) bell housing.

I say try it and see if the 400 will fit in there.
