Exhaust Advice

Starting to plan the exhaust on my swap and wanted to know best set up for performance, not really sound. Wanting to know what size pipe, mufflers, etc. Here is what's swapped. 1971 K5, 6.2 red block j code, 700r4, np205, 3.73 years. Thanks for any help you can provide.

For best performance, a turbo ... and 3in all the way back, no muffler.

Keeping it NA, 2 1/4 in with an X pipe, Gibson for a more modern sound, Flow Master for other tones ...

Or ... Muffler ?? Never heard of her ... can you hum a few bars ?? .... if you don't like your neighbors cause it's snap, pop, bark like a MoFo ..

Headers would be nice too but daaahm are they expensive ... see first response for a like priced better idea ...

I’m a muscle car guy at heart, and i enjoy a deep, throaty...exhaust tone, but if it’s a daily, why would you want to subject your own ears to constant barking exhaust? I mean, hell, i wanna strangle my one neighbour who’s damn dog doesn’t STHU when it’s outside, why would i want to drive 1K kms/week listening to the same noise? Don’t get me wrong, i LUV the sound of my Dart, but having driven it on a 5 hour trip, i just wanted to listen to peace & quiet when i got home. I’m even looking at “quiet” exhaust for my Ram, ‘cause i’m starting to question long hauls with it. Well, that....and i tend to have a heavy foot.

I was wondering how loud it would be just running with no muffler, without a turbo? I want the diesel clack clack, but not so loud I can't hear myself think LOL..

F******Kin' loud .... ya a true dual, straight piped 6.X has a super loud old school snappy bark that starts 50 rpm off idle ... and doesn't stop till ya key it off. Your neighbors for a mile will hate you ... don't do it!!

Ya we are into a decent derail already, diesel's, muscle cars, mud trucks ... oh my ...

Yes, I get the point of being able to think in the car, talk in the car, got get tickets, sleep at night without tinnitus ... yuar ... I hear ya ...

My SD is straight piped 4in but is reasonable, no drone and is quite quiet in the cab buuut if you get past 45-50% throttle, all bets are off cause it gets that bark on ... not 6.hoe but still really loud.

Have I showed off my lil down pipe ... ?? That's a 1/2in ratchet for comparison ...

IMG_4332.jpg

Now my 72 Dart ... ya ... what muff's!! It's a stock car so all bets are off also!! You gata post up picks of yours some times cause ya keep on teasing me...

My 90 Burb has full 2.25 pipe, H pipe cause I haven't finished the T re clock and coupla other things, through quietish reverse Turbo mufflers and I find it very tolerable out the back, all the noise is in the front anyway!!

My Big Burb mu/snow truck is headers, true dual to some glass packs of unknown make, very quiet at idle, to a lil rumble ... to full on 60\s snaaapy/bark/pop under throttle and load. Decent in the cab, don't stand by the pipes, I'll try and post a video later.

My glass-packed 6.2 would set off car and bank alarms.

The factory mufflers sound good to me... But if you got a turbo, no muffler is on the money! All my buddies agree I have the best sounding truck.

What would be the factory mufflers? Brand?

When I did the exhaust on my K20 years ago, I just got some 2.5" straight pipe and some Raptor flow tech mufflers from Summit, all for less $100 with hangers and clamps.
