adapter for a different starter

does anybody make or have any of you made a engine plate, or torque converter cover, that incorporates a sae#3 type starter?

i hate the oem starter. especially when having hot start issues.

the easy button is just to use a 24 volt starter. i dropped my feed to the truck system and series up the batteries a month or so ago and ran the jumper cable from one battery to the pump switch when i couldnt get the truck to hot start.

it fired right up....

let it run for a minute and shut it down...hooked it back up normal and it restarted.

if i build a new custom torque converter cover, i could incorporate a sae #3 pattern and run the mt35 starter at 12 volts and have more power then the mt28 at 24. i dont like the idea of that much weight hanging on the front of the transmission case...

most likely i will just cut up 1/2 in angle iron or piece of 5x9 box i have laying around and bolt it to the current block holes and make a hanger bracket for the back. this of course could be tied into a custom torque converter cover.

as a bonus i could actually use a mechanical spring starter as well...not to mention all of the other variants with that pattern.

seems like there should already be one out there.......save me some work

If you use a Spring starter what would you use in the winter? LOL

Had a salesman wind one of those starters and released it on the floor. That thing jumped all over the place when he released it. (There is a warning on it not to do that)

Need a air starter.

i dont know....the ones on the pumps with cummins engines work ok. seems winterish out here.

20 below took a bit to get going....i was not there for that. said they warmed up the oil pan with mag heater and used propane. but it sat over a day.

I hate to say it but there has to be more measurements taken, no where near enough in those drawings.

The biggest ones needed would be the engagement depth of the bendex of both as that I think will be the hangup point. By the time you have a solid enough adapter plate I don't think the SAE would poke out the bendex enough.

Ha ha ha air starter's .... had enough of them on Ford CL 9000 with a 3406 ... talk about pray .... pray again ... crank ... you got 1 shot ... F that ....

those drawings are merely reference.

i would buy one or get a used core unit and just build a mount.

10000000 percent will work. zero doubts at all....lots of chrysler starters cranking over various combinations....

i was hoping you already did because i am a lazy bastard.

Just get another 6.x starter.

Or both...

Go 24v. Requires half the cranking amps. Much easier starting.

12/24 .. they are the same starter physically. Just different solenoid and isolated ground...

The bad part about custom parts; when it breaks or fails you have to "custom" all over again... sometimes needing to identify the issue on why it failed to begin with and redesign. New parts can sometimes take a fair degree of r&d. Experimentation (sometimes with the expectation of failure). Don't be upset if (enter variable here)...

well. i am fluent in custom parts and [email protected]

theres a gauge to make stack up a breeze.

its one bracket.

so it is potentially the simpler solution.

use a superior part for superior performance with negligible cost penalty to a crappy aftermarket starter.

and cost savings and much better performance over a powermaster.

factors are alternative fuel use and cold weather starting.

the oem starters suck. too slow. at 24 volt they are ok. a mt 35 would last quite a bit longer based on my experience. one of the pressure test shops has a truck with a 20 year old 600k isuzu in it...oem starter...basically the mt35. so it got my attention....especially after it survived a fire from being covered in goo.

i will probably lazy bastard a 24 v setup......cause lazy.

but not hard.
