fuel loading

My 82" 6.2 stock hasn't really run other than idle for over 5 years while the body was redone. It wouldnt run right so we drained the tank put fresh fuel and conditioner in and changed fuel filters. Filled the fuel filters with a cleaner and started engine. Now it runs for awhile and then the check valve clogs and fuel runs out of the return on pump while cleaning check. after the "pressure" goes down. Its starts and the whole process starts again. Acts like the injectors are partially clogged. Help!

Replace the injectors, you have loosened crud in the fuel system and the injection pump and it's traveling to the injectors...

You should flush the entire fuel system and start with a clean system including dropping the tank and cleaning the pick up sock...

Little plastic chunks? Almost sound the the internal pump ring has dissinegrated, that check ball wouldn't really get clogged from injectors. Others would know more specifics about it, but that is exactly what it sounds like.

Sounds like that to me as well. I believe supposed to look like mouse turds. I think you can see them in the side cover if I remember right.

Especially the case since its a 1982. They where done away with in the new models, but alot of the older ones where upgraded to the solid weight ring. I think, if done right, a tag was placed on the outside cover to ID the upgraded.

If that is the case, you will have to get that IP rebuilt or another swapped in. If you go rebuild, make sure they do the update.

Pop the cover off the top of the injection pump and see if it looks like this inside.

Good thread on that flex ring

https://www.dieselplace.com/forum/63...pump-part.html

Look for a tag on the one of screws holding the cover on, if there is one then the injection pump has been updated with the newer flex ring
