My motor idles like garbage when Im at a stop light. The temp spikes and Ive got a light ticking noise when I increase rpms. Thought it might be easier the head gasket or a bad injector.

besides your 6.2L being a "duck killin rig" is it a Chevy, GMC, Reg cab truck, 3+3 4wd,Blazer, etc??
Is it all stock??

The more info you can provide us the better we can assist

Yup ....

Welcome to Diesel Place .... The Big Show.....

Ya 1k is a good price and hope that your heads are in usable shape. Lots of shops will want to plane the heads, try to refrain from that and if they do one side, the other has to be done.

Pre cup cracks, are not fatal as long as they are not within 5/6 of the fire ring or any chunks missing, more than 1 cracks up each corners and multiple cracks all over, get new ones but I'd post a pic here to be sure we are on the same page ...

Right on guys, I appreciate all the help.

I’m going to start with replacing the injectors, if that doesn’t fix the problem then I’ll take it down to my mechanic.

Usually injectors won't cause a temp spike so the injector replacement may do nothing.

Stay away from the famed marine and +40hp injectors .... no bweno there...

when its sitting idling without the rad cap, does it have air bubbles percolating in the rad and over-flow bottle? easy trouble-shooting method and costs zilch.... also whats the blow-by like when its running and you remove the oil filler cap? is there whitish/grey sludge build-up on the inside of the oil fill cap? as for the tick-tick, hows the side to side play off the turbo? this can be checked by gently placing your thumb on the end of the shaft and lightly moving it side to side, not too hard though, or you can actually damage the sintered brass bushings, if it touches the sides, time for a rebuild....J&J
