Power Tailgate And Door Control

Putting the guts in my tailgate and getting it working ran into an issue.

It goes up and down on the cab switch, but only down on the rear key. Did some trouble shooting, and its the rear key switch. Pulled out a spare one I had, it didn't work either way.

So I pulled it apart, there are contact points inside and one is burnt off. I don't see a way to fix it as its all specialized rivets into the posts. Need to find this connector, places like LMC and Nalley GMC don't show it.

I don't understand how that would fix it. A way to replace the points would. What a lightweight contact for a high amp draw.

Some success, I got it working. How long it will last IDK.

Heated the main power post with a soldering iron to heat it out of the plastic. Slid it out to get access, cleaned up the copper and all the remaining points. Drilled out the rivet on a a point from the spare lock and soldered it in position. As long as the contact doesn't get excessively hot, the solder won't melt and it will stay. Epoxied the post in position and sealed the unit with dielectric grease.

Got the window all installed and the cover back on.

Now on to the front doors. Apparently the power locks have relay, which is clicking but not sending power. Once I find it, I can trouble shoot that.

Well, the power door locks are going to be wonderful.

I found the relay buried in the dash wiring where I couldn't get it removed. I could probe a test light on the wires, and its working. Its not sending full voltage to the doors, but its sending and switching polarity, yet nothing is there at the other end.

It has split wires to both sides, so I can't see a plug being undone. Guess I'll have to try and get it out and see if I can clean it up.

It looks like this. Mine was above the throttle pedal with the little power center of relays, hidden above the bunch on top. I removed a hex screw and dropped a bunch on a plastic sheet and it was left on the metal bracket. Apparently they can be almost anywhere, behind the stereo, heater control etc. But where I found it was most common.
