Need Some Info 6.2l Diesel

Greetings,

Sure could use some advice and info if you folks would be so kind.

I have a 1991 Chevy Cargo Van that is a 1 ton Ex Air Force truck.
It has a 6.2l in it that I am trying to repair. Had a blown head gasket
and after pulling the heads, the machine shop said they were shot.

So, I started to order new heads and was asked if the heads were
angled or not. A call to the machine shop said they were. So I ordered
the wrong heads. Not thinking about it I put those heads on and of
course the intake manifold bolt holes will not line up. The bolt holes
on these heads go almost straight down as opposed to an angle.

Does anyone here know what the part number would be for an intake
manifold for angled heads? I sure would have to take these heads back
off. A lot of work for an old man like me.

I was told that only Vans had these angled heads.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Vans with 6.5 turbo's had angled heads. 6.2's didn't come with turbo's.

Why did the machine shop say the other heads were no good? Most machine shops don't know about 6.2/6.5 heads.

And in case you didn't know, the head bolts are one time use.

Thanks Diaric,

Yes I put new head bolts in. I agree that the machine shop let me
down, as I did not know the difference. They magnaflux the heads
and said they were cracked between several bores.

I think the new heads I put on are 6.5, so I guess I have to look for
6.5 turbo intake manifold. Not sure if I can use that intake and still
keep it NA.

I'm not sure either, its a brute of an intake for a center mount turbo. Might be easier to turbo it.

6.2/6.5 heads always crack and most machine shops freak out and think they are junk. Most have dry cracks that don't affect anything. If the cracks do go deep, there is a brass sleeve that can be reamed in and solve most of them. But this info is all a little late for you

its possible to use the 6.5l manifolds, just need to run yourself an intake tube with a cone filter, the intake manifolds look like this

Thanks guys,

I guess I will just keep looking for an intake that will fit. Should be able to
machine an adapter for the air cleaner.

These engines I think are tough. Bought it and nursed it 1500 miles back
home with a blown head gasket. Been messing with it for over 3 months
and I'm having a fit to get back behind the wheel and run down the road.

That looks like a good solution Turbonator, thanks.

I was posting at the same time as you were. So I need a LH, RH and the
crossover plus gaskets and then make up an air filter set up.
