Rant

:de adhorse::soap box:

Gotta do some bitchin, ok I admit I surf around a lot of different forums and see all this misinformation out there about about all kinds of Diesels.
Ehter, the crappy 6.2 leaker Detroits etc.
I guess my question is do you set internet bean brains stright or just let spewing bad info. What say the 6.2 DP boys?

Here is an example, a guy that drives a semi said to spray a can of ether to try and get a duramax started, while other said to prime it with the built-in pump. Luckily the guy primed it and it started.

Rant? More like ramble.
Most direct injection diesels do NOT like improperly used ether. Neither do glow plug or grid heater equipped diesels.

I hear ya but there is a point of no return or all we'd be doing is a made panic run to the key board cause "...some one on the internet is wrong and we gata fix that..."

Do what we can to help, where we can, and let the forums self correct the miss information as most are self policing.... but there are exceptions.

It means that I can properly use ether on any diesel here (I have over 70 in the fleet I maintain) but, some are much more prissy than others as to how much to use and when. My 6.2s, 7.3 IDIs, and my 5.9 12Vs will take ether all day long, but a Dmax, or a 3126E, or a C15 require limited amounts while cranking. And, not all starting fluid is created equal. And, all preheaters need disabled (glow plugs, intake heaters, etc...)

Please don't start an ether another debate

I have enough trouble correcting misinformation around here.

The problem with the internet is that in a week, the information is internet law and posted for decades. I love to straighten out stupid things I read elsewhere, but I usually find them searching some info and the post is already a few years old, no point even going there,

What do you mean, Rich? Ether (er, starting fluid) is stocked, by the case, on my service truck. A little for the engine, a little for me, a little more for me, a little more, some for the engine......

Don't start the ether debate here. Disclaimer, I use it as my van had/has GP issues and simply tired of trying to fix them, IP issues and injector issues in the past. So far, so good, but I make sure the GP's are disabled as sometimes they are anyways, lol. Your results may vary.

Wonder if the Dmax guy changed his fuel filter and didn't prime it, figuring the ether would do it for him?
