If that thing was local to me I would buy, no questions asked. The rig off it is worth 5K easy. Jer-Dan is one of the best. Plus the winch ( probably a ramsey 8K) worth about 1k, and the PTO is 450.

With dead batteries I would not pay more than a couple hundred bucks. Cant check anything if it wont spin. Engine could have been locked up, trans in pieces, etc and you wouldnt know until you got home with it. Just my 2 cents

Man thats awesome you got that to work out. I buy cars from the general pubilc, and If I had a dollar for every time I have herd it just needs a battery, I wouldnt have to work anymore. The last one was a 86 500 SEL Mercedes Benz. Jumped it off and it wouldnt change from 2nd to 3rd gear. Good thing I bought it cheap.

ASPHALTVICTORY 01-18-2012 08:50 AM

my friend bought a $500 dollar volvo that "onley needed a muffler" turned out the muffler was this complicated all in one deal it had a bad injector and when we finally got it to run right we took it for a test drive it was stuck in "winter mode" I.E. stuck in 3rd gear:rolleyes:

Agreed.

Bought my K-5 for $400 on C/L. Never heard it run. Hell i never heard the engine crank over. All i saw was "Goodwrench 6.2" when i looked under the hood and it didnt' look 1/2 bad so that's when i made up my mind. Interior STUNK of squirrel piss, so i knew it had been sitting a long time, and the guy selling it didn't' hide that fact. He said it had been sitting for 10 years.

Turned out the trans was history(looked like christmas in there with all the shiny metal flakes floating around). Someone beat that 700R4 to death, not like that's tough to do though

Found the SM465/NP208, pedal assmebly, complete hydro clutch linkage, both driveshafts, military rear non-step bumper, and front/rear 10 bolt axles for $350 on C/L.

Couldn't pass that up, even though it was almost 2 1/2 hours to get there. First trip was made in the pouring rain to get the trans/tcase driveshafts, pedal assembly, etc. Second trip was to go back and get the pair of axles.

Found a 6.2 free on C/L. Guy said it ran, but turned out it had just a little bit of water get in through the rotted air filter top and lock the engine up. Still took it since it was free. I know i've got at least 1 crack free head off of it so far, and it does turn now, but will need a rebuild.

Found a more or less brand new 4 core rad for the 6.2 from the junkyard. Got it for $35, had it cleaned, pressure and flow tested for another $85.

Last big score was the Banks kit for $300 from the junkyard over a year ago. Been saving for that next big score, but nothing has "fallen in my lap" for a while now. Time to go hunting for something. :evillol:

Landmine 01-20-2012 03:30 PM

This rollback is still up http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/bfs/2780825384.html

My brother needs a car, so im thinking he buys this and he can drive my m1008.

How would one transport a rollback truck? Im assuming it wont drive with the bad slave/clutch.

BigMike8504 01-20-2012 05:40 PM

Most of the time you haul a rollback with a heavy hauler, same thing they haul road tractors with. That size truck you could actually move with a medium duty wheel lift truck ( like a snatch rig on a F-650 or International truck.) If you had a 1 ton truck and good trailer, you could move it with that also. It weighs between 8500-10,000 lbs. You could also move it with a low boy.

Landmine 01-20-2012 06:22 PM

Hmm i have a one ton, If only i knew someone with a large pintle hitch trailer.
Tow companys are really expensive around here so i would try and avoid that route if possible.

I'll talk to my brother and see what he says, maybe even go check it out tomorrow.

BigMike8504 01-20-2012 07:24 PM

If you dont have to far to go, you might can put a tow bar on it and pull it back on a weekend. I know here I had a local guy I know give me the cheap rate for cash towing a motor home. He did it with a F-650 with the snatch rig, 18 miles cost me $165. Dirt cheap for what he did. If you can get it to fire off and are good with a stick, you might can drive it home without the clutch. Thats a killer steal on that truck. I wish he was local to me.

Doverarjim 01-20-2012 08:44 PM

Who needs a stinkin clutch that extra peddle is just for the sissies!! You can shift it with out the clutch all day long, pick a route with the least amount of stop signs or lights and go for it.

Landmine 01-25-2012 11:43 AM

The ramp truck is still up, i talked to the guy and he said its been sitting for a long time, brake lines and tires are shot. Cab is solid, but it needs lots of work that sucks to do in the snow.

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum so hello. I found a deal that unfortunately I have to turn down. Figured I'd pass it on to you guys. Miliary 6.2 with under 80k for $300 "runs great". The seller says he'll throw in the starter with the motor by the way.

Hard to tell from the ad if he would sell the whole truck, maybe he is using the axles in something because they are not listed.

Wonder if the front bumper comes with the guard Dave has been looking for.
Road trip Dave looong road trip:D

He says he is keeping the truck. His plans are to sell motor, front clip, both bumpers. He is putting in a big block. Maybe rock crawler so I'm sure axles are not for sale. I on the other hand do have a grill guard and bumper just like that I am getting rid of.

Looks just like my old 96 Gmc, except the cab wasn't rotted like that one and it was half the price.

Get the trans and tcase, should be a th400-np205 or sm465-205. Both are great combo's and worth money in the long run. Also should have a pto mounted on the transfercase that drives the hyrdo pump for the dump bed.
Never hurts to have parts on hand

i thought to do this you need to swap the output shaft but have to take the whole thing apart to do it. if you want to rebuild it, there's your chance!

I already did the research, a little at least.

You will need a Chevy 4x4 main shaft and tailhousing. the cast iron aftermarket ones are shoddy quality. Go with a OEM Alum one.
While you are in there you might as well replace everything.

Looks to be a decent site for parts needed

Someone put a lot of time into that truck. Looks good, especially from a truck from the rust belt.

Hawkstrong 03-09-2012 06:32 PM

If I had $5 grand and I would buy it

Landmine 03-09-2012 07:34 PM

I would rather buy 2 or 3 in rough shape

Dont think i could spend over a couple grand for a 80's chevy
