I don't think so. It was just a name change for 7 or 8 years for no good reason whatsoever. All the '87's were squarebodies and were all called R's and V's, no GMT400's yet. I had an '89 1/2 ton (it was a wrangler...not sure if you Americans had those) and it was an R also but it was a GMT400.

I think it was just something GM was trying out...yes because the new truck style was coming out but it was because they wanted to freshen up a 50 year old name or however old it was. There was so much confusion and backlash because of it that by '93 or whatever they came back with the C and K designation but made them 1500's rather than 10's etc... stupid stuff and very confusing...every full size GM truck I've had has been an R rather than a C and confuses the **** out of some people

Hmm I might be totaly wrong and Legend totally right. wish had my old ownership...I'm sure someone here could confirm or deny though

Your right they did start it in 87

http://www.acdelco.com/pdf/appcat_bu...tification.pdf

And GMC used 1500,2500,3500 in the 70's on up

Only the upper management knows why they did this, but it creates a lot of confusion getting parts around those years.

I think I should start making a list of the craigslist posts that have to do with bad starters, broken flexplates, and stripped starter bolts.... If people would just put that damn bracket on, this problem wouldn't exist!

That's a damn good price for that burban though.
