Need advice on EGR p0402

I am new to considering modifications. I have a totally stock 07 classic crew 4x4 with 60,000 miles and have a P0402 code for EGR. Dealer said it is about $900 to fix. I am wondering should I go ahead spend the extra and remove the egr system and tune? Are there other things I can do that may be better and keep the system intact? I just want the truck to run good and sound good with longjevity. I am not a hot rodder. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Russ

You could also have a Air leak between the MAF and the turbo or an issue with the EGR valve, stuck open.
GM Part :98025695 VALVE, Emission Control System, VALVE,EGR(INCLUDE EGR MOTOR P/N 98063338)(INCLUDES 5,6) $211.56
Very easy to change your self.
I have the finger stick & blocker plate in after I brought it home. But you need a good working EGR valve. You can also do tuning to shut the valve off and check engine light off with EFILive.
I also have this. So Many options.
