Lbz runs hot towing

Looking for suggestions on my 2007 HD classic stock drivetrain
towing 38 ft fifth wheel the engine and Trans run hot when outside temperature is over 85 degreees. The engine overheated once towing thru the mountains
I have added a larger Trans cooler that made some difference to the trans temps but not enough

Do you have temp readings, did you get an overtemp or overheat warning? The dash guage isn't linear.

Talk to the Team section is for website issues only. Moving to proper area.

Oops - someone beat me to it!

The first thing I would look at is the "stack", which is slang for the radiator, trans cooler, A/C condenser combo. They get dirty and can block the flow of air through for proper cooling. Next item is the fan. Did the fan kick on when this happened? Trust me, you can tell when the fan is engaged because it sounds LOUD!

how hot was hot on the trans temp?

Question for you all, I want to install an aftermarket cooler myself, is there a certain direction of the flow through the cooler? Meaning in flow vs outflow. Reason on I ask is I have a larger earls cooler I got from a friend and depending on mounting options will depend on which side of the cooler faces outward

I'm guessing you're asking about cooling the trans? If so, be careful. Like the engine, the trans is designed to run at a certain temp. Running too cool, especially if you live somewhere that low winter temps can cause other issues. If that applies to you, consider putting valves on it so you can by pass it in the winter.

The factory trans cooler also works to warm the transmission in cold weather.
