Not sure if this will help anyone. But after battling exhaust rattle and particularly on shutdown I finally found it. On the top of the engine at the back I undid the three screws holding the turbo heat shield in place. The shield will rotate backwards exposing the exhaust turbine of the turbocharger. I found my v-band clamp to be completely missing the bolt. Just the body was still there. I repeatedly thought it was the lower v-band clamp and only after fully taking it off did I realise the whole down pipe above that was moving around.

My '06 LBZ with 155KMs starting chirping a couple of months ago. It ALWAYS occurs at 1340-1380 RPMs in ALL gears and I can replicate this by increasing RPMs (to that range) while in park too. The chirping also happens periodically while stopped in gear. The chirping can happen when I turn off the engine in park.

It's funny as I also noticed that around the time the chirping started, I began periodically noticing the smell of exhaust while in the cab.

This all leads me to believe this is exhaust related - I'll check into the turbo v-clamps issue mentioned above and report back.

I had a chipring/cricket noise, replaced belt, belt tensioner and 2 pulleys with brand new ac delco parts and napa belt. Quiet as can be. Amazon.com has good deals on the pulleys and belt tensioner as well if anyone needs them. Better than the dealer.

I think there are two different chirping noises being mentioned. The first one is from the S belt and it sounds like a bird chirping to a rhythm. The second one is the one I had. It sounded more like a cricket chirp that ended up being the Vband clamp that connects the turbo downpipe to the actual exhaust system. Draw a line between your firewall and the center line of your truck and the clamp is where these two lines intersect, almost directly below the stereo in your truck.

Almost 8 years later now and my transmission mount went out this week. Dealer replaced the mount and the noise is now gone. I don't believe the mount was making the noise all this time, but it's gone for now.
