New Completely NEW.

Hello. I know I’m already in the wrong forums it being a diesel forum but I figured you fellas know more than most. So I just purchased my First Dually. I’ve wanted this truck since I was a young man in the marines. 16 years , 6 combat tours, and many nights searching I found a 1996 3500 with a 454 ( no diesel sorry). But it’s rust free and only has 77,331 miles. This is my gotta have one day truck and I got it. I can’t believe how cheap I got it too! Anyway I am new to dually life but not new to building. I do custom interiors and upholstery for hot rods, so my questions, goals are this:

1.) I want to lower the truck. No air ride at this time. Static drop thinking a 4/6. What’s the best or good set up? No DIY hacker “budget” bs this is a daily shop truck and I want to be as low as possible while retaining comfort and towing.

2.) the truck has issues the seller mentioned something about having to “adjust” the rear brake system? I have no idea unless he means it having the goose neck/5th wheel hook up and tow package?

3.) Any go to places to shop for these things? I deal a lot with classic industries but usually there’s a “get your parts here for sure” site for certain vehicles and groups.

Just any overall things I need to look for? Common issues or complaints?

Thanks for having me. Take it slow with me I’m a grunt remember

Welcome to DieselPlace
I moved your post over to "GM Gassers" for better views and responses.

Is your Dually 2 or 4wd?

The Dually rear braking system is drum brakes.
You would remove the dual rear wheels and remove the drums to access the brake components for inspection and any repairs.
If you look in the 6.5L section of the forum you can find our FAQ page there with manuals that you can download to your computer on the brake system and more..

For parts sources, you can browse our Supporting Vendor: Rock Auto

If you use them you can get a 5% discount towards your purchase by visiting their vendor page here to get the code:

The info in the link will explain how to apply the discount code to any order you place.
