HELP! 8.1 Cam Position Sensor

Recently picked up a 2001 Silverado 2500 8.1 Ally 135000miles. It had a cam position sensor code so I replaced it and ran good for about a week. started to start rough again, checked codes and cam sensor was back up. changed it out in oreilly's parking lot and ran good for about 30 miles.

do you think there could be something else going on causing the sensor to fail. or did I just strike out with 2 sensors. plan on putting another one in tomorrow since its under warranty!

Cause and affect, there is something that is causing the code, the affect is cam sensor code.

Maybe timing chain is loose/too much slack?

What code, let me see what troubleshooter says.

The cam sensor for the 2001 is no longer available. The replacement part you use is for a 2002-2003. Are you sure you got the right part? The correct part # is GM12575183 or AC delco 213-1064. I had a brand new one installed and it went bad. Put a second one in and worked perfect.

alright so I'm using a bwd brand one from oreillys. I put a another new one in last night and still doesn't seem to be right, I'm gonna go scan for codes again. I've never had good luck with the bwd brand and so I'm hoping its just the sensor again. do you think id be better off replacing it with the parts you describe?

My first sensor was a BWD, that failed. Went to the dealership and got a factory part for the 2nd one. Make sure the hole is clean. I know its a pain to get to this but use a couple of q-tips and some carb cleaner. I had some trouble getting the sensor to seat all the way in.

okay so since they are discontinued for the 2001. do you know where I can get a proper working one. will the 2002- 2003 fits? really don't want to change timing cover, etc.
