Anyone know of an 8.1 with the middle CompCam (264)?

I have talked to two guys that have installed the smallest one (258 I think). I have talked to two guys who have ran the 270. Both guys with the 258 say they would go bigger next time. Both guys that have ran the 270 say it pulls hard 3500 to 5200rpm's, but below that it is like stock.

FYI, according to another 8.1 guy on here somewhere, stock 8.1 specs are:

Duration: 201 intake 208 exhaust at .050
Lift: .470 intake .470 exhaust
LSA: 119

sounds like the 270 cam would be worthless in a towing situation unless you like running in 4th and 5th gear might be different in a auto though?

On flat land, my stock 8.1 pulled my trailer fine. On flat land my wife's 6.0, 3.73, K2500 Yukon pulled our trailer fine (one steep hill was hilarious, 2nd gear). Both 270 guys I talked to said they did not lose anything down low. It is a thirsty, gas, BBC. It sounds happy at 3500+ RPM's when big hills come. Mileage will always be crappy towing (or not towing) anyhow. Better 65% throttle at a higher RPM than 90%, bogging at a low RPM.

The 264 seems much closer to the 270 than the 258 is close to the 264.

I mailed compcams. They mailed me back. Here is what I mailed:

Hello. I am up in
the air between the 264 roller or the 270 roller for my 2003, 8.1 liter,
gas, Chevy truck. It is a 2x4, Allison trans, 4.10 gears, and stock lil'
tires. It has an intake, headers, and off road exhaust at times. I tow
occasionally, not too heavy, and don't mind hitting some revs when pulling
up hills. Mostly I enjoy driving to work and flooring it a few times a
day. I all have a guy who handles my programming. Your website says
there is only a 200 RPM diff. in operating range between the 264 and the
270. Is that true? I am not expecting anything under 2000RPMs (besides
accelerating when cruising around town).


Here is what they sent back:

The 270 will work better for your application. It has a little more power
for when you stab that pedal a few times a day. It will also tow good for
you. Let me know if you have any questions.
