Please take no offense, but that's your opinion, I went with Tom's opinion. He is/was the Transynd expert from Allison.

DEX VI is good, Allison TES 295 is good-er
I think a lot depends on what your doing with your truck, driving to Sunday School, specific parent errands, or towing heavy in the Great Smoky Mountains.
I do agree that way to many make to much of a big deal about this.

Just like suggesting you never have to change the internal filter,
I wouldn't ignore changing it just because someone suggested that, what are you doing with your truck, driving to Sunday School, specific parent errands, or towing.
What location are you located in cold climates or hot desert driving also makes a big difference, towing up 7% - 10% grades in 110 - 120 degree temps.

Dex VI sux. Valvoline "Max Life" is a synthetic version of good ol' Dex III and it what I would run, if a TES-289 fluid was out of my budget.

Sorry I have searched and not finding the info I need. If I drain from the drain plug of the transmission how much Transyd do I need to refill?

They will vary depending on the angle of your truck and how long itís set, measure what you drained out.
You should be within 1-2ounces.

Stock pan around 7 1/2 qts, Allison deep pan around 9 1/2 qts.

More if you have the front up higher than the rear and letting it set for a day or so, so more fluid could drain down from the lines and converter.

I use Valvoline Full Syn Dex VI with no problems; currently 220k miles. I change the oil every 30,000 miles and buy it from Menard's for about $4 a quart. I have used Amsoil TorqueDrive and TES 295 fluids. I don't see or feel any difference using DexVI and like that I have fresh, clean fluid in there every 30k miles. Good Luck!
