911 911 911 Service 4 wheel drive!! Truck won't drive

Hey all. This morning like most mornings I used my automatic start to start my truck to warm her up (08 GMC Sierra 2500HD 6.6L SLT Z71). After letting her warm up I got out to get in and its roughly around 32 degrees. I get in and go to put her in drive and get a "Service 4 Wheel Drive" message in my DIC. I have never had this message pop up before. I tried turning her off then turning her back on, same message. Then it says put in N to reset, I tried that and nothing happened. The indicator light on the 4 wheel driv not illuminated as usual and the truck won't go into gear and drive at all. I checked the 4 wheel drive system fuse and it seem to be ok. Any Ideas??? And help would be much appreciatedIMG_8288.jpg

I just couldn't resist, looks like the first stop to make when you get going is for some fuel....
(Meant to be funny)

Have you tried to unhook the batteries for a while to see if it will possibly reset? Just a thought.

I've heard of stealing tailgates but driveshafts? After reading that thread I see what your talking about but have to admit your post did make me laugh. Hopefully that was an isolated incident.

encoder motor is skewed maybe.? when i had encoder problems on the suburban, it would Neutral out because is was stuck between 2wd and 4wd.

there is a sequence to neutral to transfer case. you also have to have the trans in neutral i think as well.?

here are the 2008 instructions form another forum. it is telling you to neutral your transfer case for towing.?

Yes you can flat tow your 2008. Make sure the transmission is in Park and transfer case in Neutral. If you have the round knob for the transfer case, start the truck or turn the ignition to

. Shift the transfer to 2HI. Turn the dial to the Neutral position and hold it there until the Neutral light starts blinking. This will take at least 10 seconds. Then slowly release the knob to the 4LO position. The Neutral light will come on steady when the shift to Neutral is complete. If the engine is running, verify the transfer case is in Neutral by shifting the transmission to Reverse for one second and then Drive for one second. Place transmission back in Park and turn off the ignition.

sorry one piece that is important.

The N is the far clockwise position and is spring loaded so you have to hold it there.
