I was.... USAF 2T370, Vehicle and Equipment Mechanic 2001-2008

My career field actually did some merging/splitting while I was in. My actual training in tech school was for Heavy Equipment Mechanic. I liked the job part, not the military side.

Air Force andMuseum Reserves...I have had several AFSC's over the 33 years, 423X2, 454X2, 2A5X1. Started out as an egress tech on F-4's and then went to F-16's. I even got to pull and de-arm the ACES II ejection seat that is in the F-117 that is at the Air Force Museum near Dayton, Ohio. Our fighter unit shutdown at Wright Patt and we joined the airlift unit out of Rickenbacker. So, I became an Aero Repair Tech on C-141's and then we got the wonderful C-5, and now we just received our C-17's. It has been a great experience....been all over the world, and made some great friends.

I hear ya on that one Joe. I was a 2T375 Allied Trades (Body Shop) from 02-08 & was medically retired right when they shut everything down & merged General Purpose/Special Purpose into one career field. I loved being in & hate the corporate side of things now.

U.S. Army Mechanic for 20 years. Tracked Vehicle Mechanic with experience on anything from a M151A1 Jeep to an M1 Tank.
There are plusses and minuses when an Army mechanic. The Army is going systems maintainer meaning you are handed one piece of equipment like an M1 Tank. On paper that is your job.
The military never sleeps so you will be pulling a lot of 24/7 duty if you join.

You will work in adverse weather conditions. I have experienced 16 below zero out in the field to 120 degrees fahrenheit.

LOVE my job. Lots of hard work, long hours from time to time, but that is what I like.
