I am looking for some soft load recommendations for 20 and 12 ga. For the grand kids.

In the 80's I used to load 12 ga 7/8 ounce with - I think it was SR7625 - it shot very soft and clean. It's been a while since the reloaders have been out of the closet. Time to learn all over again

Winchester AA Sporting Clays once shot empties for both

Its been a while since I bought shells also. I know they make light target load #8 shot. Cheapest will be in 12ga. Which is weird cause it's larger.

I remember buying Federal brand 150 shells box.

Don't really shoot at clays any more. I use the shoot for those annoying red squirrels that like to get into vehicles.

You can buy federal or Winchester target bulk ammo cheaper than you can reload at walmart.
It is pretty mild and kid friendly. For basic shooting that is what I use. Hunting and competition I reload.
Its fun to buy a case of cheapo wally world ammo, birds. & Let the kids and women have their way with them.
They can blast away to their hearts content while you mix up a nice pot of chili. YUM!

Do you have any specific loads to mention?

Not all Wally Worlds carry the same stuff or have the same prices.

Around here 12 and 20 ga. usually run the same price. And it's really hard to get the 12 ga. shells in the 20 ga guns.

We have 4 light weights and a couple of loaners. So we have 12 and 20 ga. shooters and I am looking for some 870's in 20 or 12 ga. if anybody sees any bargains, I would appreciate a heads up. Sharing doesn't seem to be as much fun as breaking a bird after your buddy missed it.

Yikes! DON'T DO THAT!!! Recipe for disaster.

Federal value pack. 100 target loads are what I usually get around here. Usually around 25.00 a box of 100 12 ga including tax. Don't know what they cost where you live or if you can even get them. Ill is pretty much anti gun. But my local wallmart has them by the pallet load. Right next to the clay birds.

Reloading should be pretty cheap until I run out of supplies. I seriously doubt I have any usable powder but I should be good to go on everything else.

It's been 25 years or so since I made light loads. I'm sure there are maybe different or better powders to use than what I used back then

I like the old stand by Green dot. It has always worked for me. Fairly easy to get. It is a low recoil, Clean burning, versatile, target and field powder. Best for 12 gauge but it will do good in a 20 ga for target loads also.
Pretty hard to give you any loads because I need to know what you have on hand.
Whatever powder you decide to use. There are plenty of loads at the manufactures web site.
If you go with green dot.
This is a good light load using Green Dot in 12GA win AA shells.
1 1/8 oz #8 shot
Win 209 primer
WAA 12 wads
17-18 grains powder.
shoots around 1100 (17gr)- 1150 (18gr) FPS with a low psi.
Before you load check the green dot tables at the Alliant site.
