Today's Prayer
February 14, 2020

Good morning my heavenly Father! As I do every day, I come to You and pray in the name of my Lord Jesus Christ. Father, it’s Saint Valentine’s Day. A day we recognize as a day to celebrate love. But why just one day? Doesn’t Scripture teach us to love each other, every day? Who will celebrate this day of love and give emphasis to their commitment to You? To love You as we should? Who?

Father, the truth is many celebrate love without understanding that love is commitment, but You know the importance of commitment. Throughout the ages, You have witnessed the devastating effects of broken commitments. And because of Your great love, You are grieved. Lord, unless we study Scripture, we cannot truly understand love, and therefore, we cannot protect our commitments.

Who understands agape love? Father, You created us to love You and to love each other. “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.” (John 13:34) And all through Scripture, You explain the reason for this love. Jesus said, “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35)

But we should not love one another in an attempt to look good! We should love one another to glorify You! Love is not about us! Love is about You! “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (1 John 4:7-8)

“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

Paul’s letter to the church at Corinth explains how a Christian should love. Lord, I pray my love would be like the love of Christ, but I know I have a long way to go before my love is made perfect. I pray that my love will never fail. Is our love suffering and kind? Dear God! I pray it is! I pray our image of love would remind us of Jesus on the cross.

Thank You, Father God, for Your great love. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) And thank You for Your promise to love me, unconditionally, forever. Absolutely nothing can tear me away from Your love!

Lord God! I pray Your love would fill the world. And I pray the world would feel the love of Jesus. There is no greater love than Yours! Without Your love, evil would rise up and destroy us. And we have no idea what things You do each day against evil! Please Lord! Protect us from all harm and evil. And as for my house, I pray to serve You forever. In Jesus’ precious name I offer this prayer, amen.

Everything I have belongs to God. He allows me to use things while I'm here. When I die, it all stays here.
