I have been learning to weld, and build my first sculpture today

Was looking through instagram, and all the metal sculptures today finally made me decide to do one. So I wanted to do a sci-fi themed build, and this is what I ended up doing.

Hopefully I can have the video edited and uploaded to my youtube channel soon.

Looks like fun!

Your welds aren’t penetrating enough, what are you using?

Just a mig welder. Small one. It was melting down the wrenches I used. I had it cranked up a lot.

The thinner material will always do that when trying to weld disparate thickness/material together.

Some tricks to help with 110v wire feeds.

1) preheat the thicker metal with a torch.

2) strike the arc on the thicker piece and pull the weld towards the thinner piece in a circle making your puddle of quarters

3) Turn heat up and wire speed down so it the weld pools longer.

4) make sure you're moving solidly from piece to piece in almost a z to circular pattern a straight line weld on the edges won't penetrate the same
5) angle grind any thicker edges to give you a better valley to pool the weld.

I bought a used Hobart 11,000 watt 225 amp DC stick welder/generator that had 4 hours on it and I'm learning how to weld and getting better at it, I'm just having a hard time laying a good bead doing inverted welding for example the puddle keep falling and sometimes not sticking to the work

Know that it's just a flesh wound. Globs from the puddle won't go through bone.
