Rendering Truck?

Looking at getting into the rendering business since there is only one guy in the Twin Cities that picks up horses. Anyone shed some light on what kind of truck I need to buy? I'm not finding much online? Didn't search super hard lol rather ask the fellas here. Any insight on the business greatly appreciated. I would like to buy brand new so maybe I should call a truck utility company?

Im guessing this is where you pickup dead animals to take to the glue factory?

There is an "RIP Farms" truck that I see around my route that picks up expired cows. Its a 30ft GMC open top straight truck with 6ft stake sides and barndoors on back.

I would think a truck with a leakproof, covered dumpbed should do the trick.

Here is a pdf. on MN Pollution control regs for animal disposal, rendering
https://www.pca.state.mn.us/sites/de.../wq-f6-07b.pdf

Check with your local county offices for any additional regs or ordinances on odor, transportation, etc

Wow that was quick. Thanks for the links I did read some of that. I don't want to operate a full blown plant or bury or compost them on my land (dont think that would fly) lol. I just want to be transport from point of expiration to point of rendered / other.

Local rendering plant has a fleet.
Need to consider how you will load a 1000 lb or more carcass. Theirs are custom dump beds with a cable winch in front, at top of front panel and a hydraulic lift end gate to guide the carcass up into the box. Most are probably 24’ on tandem chassis.
Or truck body with a crane instead of the winch and lift gate.

Cable winch is a must. Drug one out of a trailer with another truck and a chain. Find out who cremates horses too as you may find that to be the "final resting place". You will find a lot of the ladies go down that path.

Not sure if you are just going private party, but you might want to check in with the vet offices. I believe Stillwater Vet in Stillwater, MN they only pickup once a week. (there was a stack of them when I "dropped" one off)

Oh and a big box of tissues.
