Many companies file Ch11 and recover fully. It's a move that allows them to restructure their business model, and get back into healthy operation.

Time will tell.

Ok so ive never really been 100% clear on this...are Delphi and Delco the same company...? Like my TNR says "delco" on the sticker on the outside, but before it learns my trucks VIN (to show the Chevy bowtie startup screen), it shows a generic "DELPHI" logo startup screen...theyre the same company arent they?

Delphi and Delco are the same company which GM spun off about 5 years back. GM uses many different suppliers and have been moving away from Delphi for the last three years. The new '06 diesel trucks use mostly Bosch componets now for the electronics. Delphi is in a battle with the unions and they have been losing money for over a year now so I'm sure when the dust settles they will come out of bankruptcy.

They finally did it. My money was on them filing this coming Monday (10/10/05). My understanding is the feds are implementing some sweeping changes to bankruptcy filing starting on 10/17/05. I won't be surprised to see more filings before then...

The only problem with this chapter 11 filing is that GM will have to assume the cost for Delphi's retirement pension package. GM already has a huge liability to it's own retirees, but part of the spin off deal dictates that GM will assume the pension plan if Delphi couldn't make the payments... it will put another hurt on GM for sure.

Why would Delphi's filing for bankruptcy be the straw that pushes GM to file?
I don't understand the logic.
