PA State Inspection w/o cat??

Does the cat have to be on in Pa to pass inspection or can I just run a straight pipe and still pass?

This is an 05.

Diesels are currently emissions exempt in PA. I only have two with them missing, but, never had an issue and they've been to multiple garages for inspection.

It will depend on if your county has emissions testing or not. Emissions counties you should be able to get away with it. Non-emissions counties include emissions in the safety inspection and the cat is part of it, even on Diesel's. The inspection station you take it to will also make a difference.

Thanks guys for the info. I took it to a dealer that I really like but they said they need to see the cat but I could hollow it out. I will check around at some other inspection stations close to me.

When I used to live in PA, we were always required to have the cat on the car. As stated, if you live in an emissions county, they just plug it into the ODBII port, but if you don't have emissions they are "supposed" to perform a visual check to ensure all emissions equipment is in place.

We used to just run gutted cats to pass inspection but still get rid of the restriction. A couple of my friends even welded a straight pipe into the gutted cat to reduce "turbulence", but I just reamed that ceramic crap out of there and left it hollow.

Can't say that I've done it on a diesel, but we all used to do it to our Z28's and Trans Ams.
