I always run 50/50 mix with the water meth system I have on my LML. Last 6 months or so I've been pushing it past 50% meth with great results ( power wise ). I am fully aware of the fire hazzard and all the properties of meth as I use/order methanol daily in my line of work. Is there anything negitive about running high percentages of methanol injection? ( even 100% ) I was thinking about retubing the whole system to 3/8" or 1/4" steel tubing with swedgelock fitting and no push fittings etc. Any search I've done tells me methanol does not affect timing. A potental fire hazzard if not properly installed is the only issue I can see. Your input is appreciated.
People have had problems with engines when going above 50%. I don't think 51% will blow your engine, and many gassers run 100% meth through the same lines you are using. Why not look for a fire-proof wrap for the lines before going overboard on hard piping. Go to Home Depot or Lowe's, and they sell 3/8" quick connect hose that the stock 1/4 will slide into. Push it through or slit the 3/8 and push it down into it. That would be the simplest first step for reinforcement. I know that at least aquamist sells a wrap, and I know most companies will sell part to convert to stainless AN stuff.
I used to run my old LBZ on 100% methanol every now and then for fun. EGTs climbed a lot faster which was to be expected but other than that I never had any problems. I usually ran a 50 meth/50 WWF mix when I would mix my own. Running 100% added over 90rwhp to my LBZ which put me in 670 rwhp range and bending rods was a possibility. Never bothered upgrading the W/M plumbing.
