If dropping $375 (DO - dvc stage 2) up to nearly $1000 (Snow) isnt for you and you dont mind the simple, non bling, and a little leg work you can DIY. Be cautious installing this. If you dont understand something, read some more or ask questions before proceding. Because if you screw up your truck, its on you.

Lets start with the tank:

Yes you can tap into your windshield washer tank for the ultimate low cost tank. But if you want a seperate tank here are a couple options.

1 - This is what I have been running for a while now.
http://www.amazon.com/Valterra-R8054-ABS-Water-Tank/dp/B0006MRSQG/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1339844465&sr=8-14&keywords=valterra+rv+water+tank

A Valterra R8054 - 27 gallon

The tanks are ABS Solvent weldable, so you can add your own fill fittings.

They also make different sizes. The tank part numbers go like this R80xx (xx is the length of tank)

Tank tanks are about the same height as the 7 gallon tanks that come with some meth kits, so they fit nicely under the bed rails.

You can see in the link how the tank looks new.

I cut some holes in the top

A couple fittings and some ABS solvent from Lowes:

And some black plastic paint

Also, not pictured is the one cap I changed out. On one side I replaced the cap pictured with a one way vent cap to let air in as the tank drains. Also available at Lowes.

2- You can check a place like http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=23910&catid=934

Hmmm, does that tank look familiar:rolleyes:

Now for the pump.

Any of the meth companies pump should work fine for a DIY setup. They are mostly all interchangeable. Check the F/S sections on the forums for used ones or EBAY or CL or buy one new.

Next up is the controller.

Probably the most requests I get are "what are you using for a controller?"

So, here it is. Not a fancy thing, not a "set it and forget it", and no bling.
But I've been runnning this for over 100,000 miles now.
http://www.bakatronics.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=581

You can get a cheap 'project box' to put it in.

That place also has one that can use a 0-5v input.

Fittings & Lines

If you have a Parker Store near you, they have most all the fittings and lines in the showroom. Lowes/Home Depot/Tractor Supply also carry some, but make sure they can handle the pressure you are going to run and can handle the % of meth you want to run.

Nozzles

I'm not sure on the exchange rate on sizes. I think Snow labels them different than the others. SO this is based on Snows sizes. For a mpg kit in a dmax you'll want a 175.

I'm sure theres more I'm forgetting or will expand on later. Just wanted to get the bulk of this written for now

interesting to read. Especially when you heard about problems with controller issues

If I may

63.0902 cc/min = 1 GPH

Snow lists their nozzles at cc/min at 100 psi
http://www.snowperformance.net/nozzles.html

AIS(Alcohol Injection Systems) rebranded Devil’s Own nozzles
http://www.alcoholinjectionsystems.com/Water-Injection-Nozzle/c28/index.html

Aquastealth

Coolingmist

and
http://www.coolingmist.com/pagedisplay.aspx?Feature_Key=special_injectors

Devil’s Own
http://www.alcohol-injection.com/en/49-nozzles

List their nozzles in gallons per hour at 100 psi.

To find the real flow, you can eye this chart to get an idea of what is going on

It’s not perfect, but will get you in the ballpark.

My last post was for outside mount nozzles. They are better in the fact that the user doesn't have to remove piping etc to change them out. Unscrew the old nozzle, and screw in the new one.

The older style was inside mount nozzles, meaning that the nozzle mounted from inside the pipe etc. and the fitting was mounted to the outside, and the compression of the nozzle screwing into the holder kept the seal. You are asking, why would I want to do that?

It's cheaper
McMaster-Carr, sorry, i can never get that website to work, do a search online

http://www.hydro-gardens.com/mistingnozzles.htm

http://www.mistcooling.com/store/accessories/nozzles.html

http://www.steinen.com/industrial/usa/english/mist-jet-nozzles.php

and more.

They are cheaper, but they will also fill up your piping, and leave less room for air to displace the spraying water. I used one on the end of the air filter that mounted directly to the turbo of my gasser. I only list these as they may be easier for people to get, and from more places, than the water/meth specific nozzles above. Especially if you or friends are in the industry, or have contacts to supply houses.

Lower EGTs and more MPG, I liked the max/mpg snow kit I had but will not spend that much on a kit again, if I can get a nice controller and find a pump and solenoids I will piece together my own kit..

The older version of the Coolingmist CMGS or VC2 (version 1.07) will be able to do what the MPGMax does

http://www.coolingmist.com/coolingmist/INSTRUCTIONS/CMGSSYSTEMX.PDF

CM says this has instructions for the MPGplus settings. If you can't find it in those, I can email you the MPGPlus instructions I saved from their site. The controllers can be found used for $100 or so. Spend 200 on the aquastealth kit, plus the used CMGS, and you are at $300. Add a flow sensor if you'd like, and you have real time output. But, understand that you will get a flashing light when the power stage kicks in, and you won't be able to use a failsafe.

I don't know enough about all the solenoids, flow valves, controllers, etc..I just know the snow kit was simple..I need a controller, pump, solenoids, nozzles, some tubing and I'm good, shouldn't cost a whole lot, I liked the ease of Snows controller and the kind of "set it and forget it" mentality of it all..

The solenoids are easy, just order them from devilsown or get one off ebay thats rated for water, the pressure you will be operating at and takes 12 volts.
Your controller could be as simple as a boost switch or switches if you want to run more than 1 nozzle.
I have the pressure regulator sitting on the floor so I can fine tune the water pressure as I drive along. Usually I find my self turning the pressure down to get more miles out of my water tank.

I have seen on here cheapy premade systems can be had for as little as $500, but they dont come with a tank.
Privetpilot put his original water injection setup together for about $200USD.
I could have put a some what functional system on for about $160 to $180, but I also didnt have to buy a water tank.

You can put together a lower pressure water injection system based on an agro water pump very cheaply.
I wish I would have started messing with water and water methanol injection in 2006, but I messed with propane for about a year and then gave up on intake injection for a long time.

You talk about including a tank with the kit, but the kit that privatepilot put together didn't use a tank that any WMI company sells.

$185 plus shipping. The problem with selling tanks with a kit is that one size does not fit all, at all. Flambeau, US Plastics, etc, all sell tanks, and you can choose the size that you want with the right fittings and accessories. The WMI companies buy from them anyway, and getting what you want the first time is simpler than getting what they have, it not fitting, and then buying what you want. I know that is why DO doesn't include a tank in their kit.

Add a NIB CMGS from here for $150 plus shipping, and you have a new fully functional meth kit for a truck with up to 110psi boost. Connect map sensor, change the settings, and be done. Buy another solenoid and nozzle from Aquastealth ($47.50), thread the solenoid fittings carefully (trust me), and you can now do what a Snow MPGMAX can do for let's call it $400 plus whatever tank you want.

I just like the ease, adjustability, and gauging that the snow controller uses..I'm trying to find a used one, don't really want to buy new if I don't have to..

#28 ·
You can source the solenoids a lot cheaper if you buy them off ebay.

That $185 kit link isn't working.
Can the $185 kit spray continously?
Because thats what I base everything off, if it cant spray at speed nearly all the time and has less than a 5 gallon tank then whats the point.
