Does anyone have the Snow Performance Diesel MPG-MAX setup on there LBZ? What are you getting for MPG increases on average and how many miles do you get our of a gallon of Boost Juice?
water meth in my opinion is more for lowering your egts...havent really heard of anyone getting a drastic increase in MPG i'm sure it doesnt hurt it but the price vs. the benefits for MPG
Wrong on both accounts guys...do some research on the subject. As for mpg, one of the longest standing members here: Lotsofmiles has over 300K on his LBZ. He runs a LaBONTE water/meth on his truck and reports driving MT and getting 22-24 mpg @ 65mph. I totally buy that. This type of system can increase your fuel efficiency from some ~85% of fuel injected being ignited to 96/98% of fuel injected being ignited...
This is no snake oil...unless of course you believe that both the US Army Air force, Royal air force among others were practioners of buyin snake oil too..?? Later Mk Spitfires, Hurricanes, P46, P51's, Me 109F, FW 190's (both sides in WWII used it), and many other piston engined aircraft made use of water injection and later on water/methanol injection.
But it also does not come free of charge either. Water meth is for the most part windshield wash with just straight meth as the additive...not the type you find in Orlando - More detergent than water/meth....rather, the kind you would see in Minniapolis/St. Paul...pure water with pure methanol usually at a 50:50 ratio. One can go through a lot of WWash using a system such as this. Benefits are lower EGTs and cleaner engines/intakes and a corresponding increase in mpg frion 2-4 mpg...right foot depending of course.
But dont take my word for it..look/think outside the DP box and see what is written and factual regarding water methanol injection for both diesel and gas engines. It is for real guys and has been around a long time.
I know it works and exactly why it works. I am just trying to figure out what people are getting with their systems.
Umfortunantly from what I have reading, since I posted this, about the Snow Performance and i think the LaBONTE seems that there is some issues with them right now. There doesnt seem to be a reliable system, that I can currently find that is designed for constant flow with kits design for that kind of system. I thought the Snow units could do it, but now I see people talking about the controllers frying.
Two guys I know in my area have/had it one was chad Flynn the guy that was in diese power magl a few years back with the green 6.4 with a 6 speed manny he had it the controller fd up and drowned his engine out at a stop light and the other one just put it on his 6.4 to lower egts and it did an ok job of that he hasn't reported any gain I'm mpg or power
we run it in a 501-d22g allison turbo prop on our companys airplanes, and yes they are rated at 4400hp @ 1077C exh temp, and yes 20 gals in about 2 minutes per side.. 50/50 water meth mix
Jevanb is correct, water/meth works the same in both applications.
Remember however that the plane is "loaded" at a higher percentage during takeoff than your truck is "cruising" and that will lessen the anount of gain the truck will see.
I see consistant 3-5 mpg with my snow mpg max stage 3. I have a custom 16 gallon tank tied to my 7 gal and start my low stage @3 psi and it uses the heck out of the water meth but helps the most. @ 4psi still helps a bunch but about 3 mpg but uses less water meth. As far as temp goes I can't tell too much unless it's almost straight water and then it may be 50-100 deg.

What size injector(s) are you using? I have the Tow Max kit and on low boost setting ( 7+ PSI to start injecting ) mine will drowned the engine. Even with the .375ml/min. injector. Last month or so Ive been using Med booster setting ( 18+PSI to start injecting ) and no drowned at all. This is though the .625ml/min. injector. Im sure it could handle more at this level of boost without drowning. But anything under 10 PSI or so she kicks and bucks ( quenches). But 18-32 PSI range sure has a lot more power now running 50/50 water/methanol.
the lines are 2inch up to a 6 nozzle setup at the inlet guide vanes, at 66% throttle angle the 5hp pump starts flowing at around 20psi, it is like a burner shot for a turbo prop, last week I was in saltillo mexico and the pump was inop, it took the whole 8000ft to get the loaded plane off the ground. when they are shut off at cruise it is like someone thru out a drag shoot.. at the high density alt, airports we cannot make Take Off HP without it
I have a Stage 3 on my LB7..it's awesome...I can now fly my truck to the moon on command...hit the little red button & she blasts off into space..in fact, I sent this message from orbit...the system is so amazing, I don't need a space suit, it actually keeps the truck & myself from decompressing.
I ran water injection on my lb7 with no problems, but didnt use a fancy controller box, just ran the pump to a toggle in the cab, pulling a long hill and turning it on dropped the egts by about 125 degrees, never worried about drowning the engine bc the box stayed on, Ive read with 50/50 that you can gain 1-2 mpg but youre burning the meth with it, so you prolly arent seeing that big of a gain.
After running the Snow Mpg-Tow Max for a year on my 6.5, it made me a believer. Towing 11,000 lbs, the 7 gallon tank lasted 620 miles. I have the mpg mode set to come on at 3 psi boost, power mode to start at 8 psi boost. EGT's dropped 210-214 degrees running the same route 3 times, once with the meth on and twice with it off.
MPG went from 12 without the meth to 16 towing. I currently get 22.8 mpg with the truck empty.
Planning to install the same system next week on the c4500.
I would rather pay $1.89 per gallon of 20 degree below washer fluid at Wally World than $4.00 per gallon of diesel anyday.
