Just wondering if any of you have any experience with water methanol injection??? Snow Performance claims that their kit can give you up to 3 more mpg's, lower egt's by 250 degrees, give you up to 100 more horsepower and burns the fuel cleaner and cooler. I really like the way this all sounds but is it too good to be true? thanx
Well, they aren't lying.....but the details are in the fine print.
You can make a 100hp, but your water meth ratio has to be so high that your EGT's won't drop any and may even raise a little.
If you lower your water to meth ration down or even run strait water your EGT's will drop.
You can get better MPG, but even that's a little loaded in that nothing is for free. You are replacing diesel fuel with methanol, so nothing is for free. If you run strait water you may see a slight increase in mileage while towing heavy just from the reduction in EGT's and make power a little more efficiently.
The biggest issue that has come out of the use of Water / Meth is that some of the minerals in the water make it into your oil and will show up in oil analysis which is a bit worrisome.
Yeah if your using tap water the minerals will leave a deposit, but not if you're running distiled water. Also they use regular water to make windshield wiper fiuld. Snow's claims is alil wishy washy.
my truck dynoed on Huckstorfs with the stock tune at 360hp. stock tune with meth 462/930.injecting a gallon of 10-20percent meth every 100ish miles gets me an easy 3 mpg gain.yes running tap water got minrrals in the oil. but it all seems to flush out in one oil change cycle too.I just swapped out my mpg nozzle to a bigger one to see if I can have a little better control and gains. about 1500 milew so far and I'm liking it. no numbers yet I've been trying to run lightweight so I haven't had a full fuel tank to start on. maybe tomorrow, 600+ miles home, but my cruise went out....uggg
Gains are all realistic and depend on system and type of fluid you use. You can make some big hp with higher ratios of methanol, but then EGT will go up.
Here is a write up on how systems improve diesel combustion:
You will not get 250F drop in EGT and +100hp at the same time. with a 50/50 mix of water/methanol get about 200 drop in EGT and 50-70hp at rear wheels. You can see higher EGT drop with 70/30 mix and about 25-30hp.
Our stage II systems (DIS-100) will get about 1-2mpg.
The stage III systems (DIS-S3) will get about 1-2mpg city, 2-3mpg hwy, and 3-5mpg while towing. Basically the harder you work the engine the more unburnt fuel you have and the greater the fuel economy gains from using w/m
