Downshifts...

Hope this is the right forum. If I ever get caught up on things I am planning on swapping out my older Edge with EFILive. Have spoken with the shop in Idaho that a buddy suggested. Truck has a K&N "cold air" kit with the oiled filter. Have been told that I need to replace the filter with a dry one. Truck has a 4" exhaust. I busted the Allison when I first got the truck, buddy went thru it, got all the bells & whistles...within 1k miles I busted the factory style convertor, was replaced with a triple disc deal. Truck is an 02.
Took me long enough to get to my question...can that funky downshift...the one that occurs while going down hill and the trans gears down to help control the speed....can it be left out of the programming? There is 2 hills I go down on a regular basis that makes the truck downshift....have had it drop down into third a few times while going 75mph while going down Lookout Pass with the trailer behind the truck...

Thanks for any input....

Your questioning something about programming, that's a question you need to ask your tuner.

Other than manual shifting if your 02 offers this, I don't know much about the earlier models.

If your truck isn't throwing any codes with the K&N, me personally I wouldn't worry about it.
But it's true K&N is NOT the best choice for diesels.

Now running downhill 75mph with a trailer, are you serious if so, your
Post up a picture of your rig, so I'll/we'll know what to look out for, and pull over before the downgrade.

I can't imagine how you broke things at 1k

I looked for a smile icon for "loose nut behind the steering wheel" but couldn't find one.

Broke it at 100k doing burn outs....had a very "stern" talking to from my trans guy about "things I should never do with an Allison".....one of them is pump the throttle. Speed limit on the section of I90 I was thinking about is 75...so that is what I go. When I went thru northern Utah with the car trailer a few times the limit was 80...so 90 seemed about right.....

Most people towing use commonsense and run about 10 mph under the max speed limit.
Apparently your lacking in that.

Ariz's max is 75, I'll run 65-70 on flats but the ones with commonsense will drop a gear or 2 and slow down a little when hitting a down grade.

You might also consider checking the max safe speed limit on your RV tires.
