In my 1994 factory service manual it gives a procedure to make sure none of the valves are close to a piston crown during the installation.
It says to line the mark on the torsional damper up with the "0" mark on the timing tab, then rotate it 88mm to the left. It should now be lined up with the first lower coolant pump bolt. Next install bolts snug on the shaft. Tighten alternately to 55 N.m (40 lbs.ft.)
