Its funny when they get 1/2 an inch of snow and the state is closed down for a week. 1/2 a yard and maybe NY schools will close. Personally I'd stay away from the Charlotte/Mecklenburg area. Its definately a lot busier than Syracuse. Winston-Salem, Statesville, and Hickory are more like Syracuse and you only have to drive about 15 minutes to be in the farm country.

Hmm, something to think about...

Why did you move? Where abouts in Syracuse were you?

We actually lived in Verona (Oneida County) which is about 30 minutes east of Syracuse. My dad is disabled and the snow was too much for him. We also had to deal with the Oneida Indian Nation buying an old farm and putting up the Turning Stone Casino in its place a mile from our house. My back lawn is now the 2nd hole to one of their PGA golf courses.

Charlotte is easily 5 times crazier and more conjested than Syracuse. As a cop you will have your hands full

I have a friend who works for CMPD. He likes it a lot, but of course he also likes busting heads . I live in Newton, NC about 45mins from Charlotte, but I'm in Charlotte a lot. Only thing I hate is the traffic and if I could I would write tickets for people not using their turn signals!

Their pay scale is ok. I'd definately be taking a pay cut though. Moving is a big expense and I'm not sure I want to go about it by myself...

I know this is real late into the post but I have lived in the Charlotte area (monroe)for 39 years and it has really grown. My wife is in real estate and with the builder she works for you can buy a 4000 sq ft house for under 200k. She sells alot of homes to people moving from up north due to the brutal winters there. You might also cosider Ft Mill SC it's 20 minutes from Charlotte and alot less taxes. If you have kids the Ft Mill school system is rated #1 in SC and one of the best in the country. I think you would enjoy NC or SC the weather is fantastic. If you need some info. on homes let me know I will ask my wife to send you some.

I would love some info on houses. I have to live within the state though to work where I've applied for.

I'm not looking for something within the city limits. I want some property somewhat out in the country.
