Anyone else wonder why the Cummins bit is in the 6.5L forum? I've got an '86 Ford diesel, 6.9L I think, with 286,000 miles. Pulls great. Rebuilt the tranny 4 years ago & the fuel injector pump last year but otherwise original. Except glow plugs. The auto-glower burned a set up twice a year. I changed 'em to manual and fixed that. Stand by for photos...

roebling, Take some time and read the stuff Canadian Rigger has done on this site, then smile and thank him for the informative input that he has brought to the table.

When CR does something to one of his 6.5's he has his own film crew document it for all of us That means even when he has done something BAD that we would all probably like to live without doing.

Welcome to the forum.

Awesome post!

By the way it relates perfectly to a 6.5 forum when a 6.5 truck is repowered by a Cummins. I am actually in the middle of my own. I am pulling the 6.5 motor on Monday and have a built 4l80E on Ebay right now. I am putting in a 91.5 motor intercolled 133k miles. HX35W Turbo brand new from Cummins 12 cm housing. Planning injectors, pump mods, air filter, 4 inch exhaust, all connected to my two tank veggie/diesel setup. I am curious about propane and have heard you can run it with the diesel not just to increase power and lower egt's but also increase mileage. I saw a Cummins with a Bullydog build that included nitrous and propane. It was a common rail truck and had exhaust, injectors, air intake, and Bully dog chip. The thing made nearly 900 HP and torque was off the dyno scale.

What did you give for the truck? Between the Gear Vendor, the NV4500, and the Cummins you have about $10,000 worth of parts. Also can I see a picture of your intercooler. Is it a Dodge? I have heard you can use a Powerstroke Intercooler as well. Plus it would be an informative post for the 6.5 guys wanting to intercool but not wanting to mount it on skid plate. Plus I think you get a bigger better intercooler.

There is a post somewhere in this thread with a pic of the IC, not a good one but its there. To the best of my knowledge its the Dodge IC from the same donor truck.

Cummins, hands down in the 1/8th (00 Two lengths back), 1/4 (00 Ten lengths back) & 1/2 mile (wheres the 00??) without turning up the propane from its current area of +/- 5% i think.
How does the Cummins compare to your 6.5 without the propane?

Powerfull! To tell you the truth the Cummins seems alot peppier than the 00 even without the propane, how much difference when i kick on the propane is a tough call, you can feel it on the azz dyno and boost will go up from 2 to 5 psi depending on the load on it.

Made my first trip today hauling the trailer, ran like a champ for over 400 km's. On level ground i can do 120 km's/hr in 5th with the gear vender kicked in and 1700 rpm, EGT's @ 950F post turbo, boost about 10 PSI. Pulled hard up a couple of hills in 4th and kept it at 110 km's/hr no problem @2200 rpm, did see EGT's go to 1000 and backed it down a bit, max boost i seen was 24 PSI when loaded just right. According to the gauge engine temps never went over 86C with the fans kicked on (acurracy of the gauges unknown). Sorry you guy's will have to convert today, i don't have my calculator handy.

EGT's always seem to run near 900F doing 60-65 MPH, seems a bit high. Might have to see if i can figure out how to crank up the boost.... i have no idea whats safe for this engine yet, anyone know?
