super single rear
time for tires thinking about going with a super single rear wheel any benefits to going to a super single dont carry a heavy load ever just got a great price on the dually and couldnt pass it up ! my thought is it might soften the ride with the super single what would be the tallest i would be able to go without
doing anything to the truck ? thanks for any help

Soften the ride with a 22.5 big rig tire?

I do believe that the super singles are about 37-40" tall in a 22.5". Your rotating weight also goes through the roof once you go to the 22.5" wheels so look into better brakes if your doing semi wheels. As for better ride... probably not going to happen.

I have 22.5 and wanted the super single but when I bought they said they wouldn't work. Now they use them and they do have a softer ride and give better gas millage. that's why big rigs use them. less rolling resistence then 4 tires. my tires where about 36.5 inches tall when i got them and all I did was crank the front torsion bars. i want new torsion keys but they have to wait.

For a semi with 40k weight on it yes, the back of your dually? Doubtful...

As SHOCKER said, the smallest super single is ~40" tall (and ~$500, IIRC) so you would need at least a 10" lift and then 295/80R22.5 for the fronts.

mighty big spare to be hauling around if you were to ask me. You didnt, but still.
Im thinking about putting some airbags on mine to lift it off of the springs when empty to see if that will soften the ride some. If not, oh well, I bought a truck to tow with, not a Caddy to massage my butt. P.S. The super singles look sick as hell on the duallys...

for the rear you don't need any lift to get them to fit. Like I said mine are almost 37" and i have plenty of room on the back. the front is where you would need a lift and it the tire is only 3" taller that's only 1 1/2" it would raise your truck higher then mine so a 4" lift would work on that. Not to mention there is a truck around town that has super singles on it with out a huge lift on it. heck most people I talk to said i was going to need a lift on my truck for the 22.5" rims and tires and they where wrong. I have had mine going on 4 years now and have no problems. no spare but these tires are 16 ply with no wieght of a truck on them so highly unlikely flats will be a problem, not saying you won't ever get one but thats what road side assistance is for, lol also the ride with the super single is quite good from the people I talk to because of the low air presure that is needed to hold our rigs is nothing so you can get some side wall deflection. my regular semi wheels on the back is stiffer then the stock but I only run 45 lbs. of air and they don't even squat when I pull my 9000 lbs. trailer. I could probably lower it a liter more but not to worried about the ride that much if I was I would of bought a smaller truck.
