The price on the 96 is nice but 96 was a bad year for the 6.5[high engine failure-cracked blocks] The 93 has had alot of work done on it and has reciepts. Mechanical injection-Good
The 2000 could only need to be timed properly or needs injectors. Pretty good buy for the money.Wouldn't pay asking price because of problem. The 93 sounds ready to use if that is a consern.

In my opinion the 1996 would be is the best truck of the the three. 3500 Duallys are super heavy on the scales & actually have less bed cargo capacity than an 8600 GVW C2500. I have one that weighs 5200 Lb,thus 3400 LB cargo capacity The 2000 year engines have had a rather high amount of block failures.506 casting series. The 96 C2500 & the 1993 were built with 599 castings. Not known to crack & crumble like the 506.The 2000 year 506 castings were reported to be deficient in Nicklel content.I think you should have a mechanical & fuel system inspections before buying. Also check the 1996 for Dual thermostats in the coolant crossover.Production build date of March 1996 was about the time the coolant system was upgraded to dual thermostats.

k. i did read the FAQ too. definitely know how to use the search button! just seeing if you all have any recommendations. my wife has said "no" to the Dually so thats out. would rather have the 2000 since its newer and has the new IP. and a tailgate. any opinions on offers to the sellers? both trucks are 3 hours away from me.

96 is the 1st year for the 506 block. Most failure prone. Squirters were made smaller in 97 because of all the failures in the 96s. $17-1800 for the 2000 if tires and brakes are good.

97 was the first year of the 506 block, unless you are counting the very late 96s. My 96 doesn't have the oil pressure of a squirter block, which is around 20 psi hot as i've seen on several. My 96 holds 35-40 psi hot oil pressure and 50-60 running down the road. Does that mean it's not a squirter block, no. Certainly doesn't act like any squirter block i've ever seen. I've never checked for the casting number in the valley, and hopefully i'll never have to rip it apart that far.

Yes, 94 was the last year for 599's, but only some have them.

Not sure which block I've got in my 96 but with a single stat I hope I'm safe from the Squirter isses.
My truck has been a lot of fun. Yeah I've had issues but when you buy a used vehicle you're making a contract with the devil on blank paper as you truthfully don't know what the issues are. 3 hours, 3 days, 3 weeks away, they guy doesn't have to tell you the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I had mine inspected by two places before I bought...one shade tree mechanic and one Stealership. "AC blows ICE COLD"...bad compressor, everything blows ICE Cold during JAN in Spokane WA. "Normal Diesel Leaks"...oil lines, valve covers, turbo return line... "Drives Straight and True"...right off the side of the road as soon as you think about releasing left counter steering. Just follow the guide in the sticky and be prepared. All in all, my truck has been a lot of fun, educational, confidence builder, and cheaper than a D-Max. I wanted to learn about diesels...I'm learing. Goal achieved.
