Banks LMM Boost Tube Replacement

I purchased the new Banks boost tube upgrade for the LMM. The kit comes with the new boost tube in a gray color and new top boot, with one clamp. I just put it on, which took about 45 minutes. Tools needed are a 11mm deep socket for the factory boost tube clamps, and misc. tools to unfasten the front and midpoint of the driver's side inner fender liner.

I unfastened the top two factory boost tube clamps first and then the lower one, which actually clamps on the factory tube. I found that dropping the factory tube through the bottom of the truck worked very easily. After removing the factory tube, I would suggest removing the lower boost tube boot from the intercooler. The clamp for the lower boot can be reached from underneath the truck, or if you have a long extension, you can get to from topside. I used a 1/4 sized ratchet and extensions for this job. I found it easier to attach the lower boot to the new boost tube first and then slide the lower boot onto the intercooler. For the new upper boot supplied by Banks you will need to reuse one of the factory clamps. To put the new Banks tube on, bring it up from the bottom of the truck. I chose to tighten the top of the boost tube first and then the lower one. Double check everything is tight and you're good to go.

It looks pretty.
Is there any actual performance gain? Not what Banks claims, but do YOU notice an improvement?

Dirty Dog, I have only driven it to the local baseball field for my son's game. I just cruised it. I will get on it tomorrow and see if I notice anything. I know one guy on this forum put one on and noticed a real seat of the pants difference. Out the door with tax direct from Banks was $164.00.

Bartman- great job with the write up. I found it easier to remove the OEM tube from the top and replace it from the top as well. And I connected the bottom tube before I installed the top. As you can tell from two different installers the job is very easy. Here are a few pictures showing how much larger the new boost tube is than the OEM. Make sure when that you tighten the clamps to 75 in lbs. Bad things can happen if you don't .

DirtyDog - I did notice the turbo spooled up a bit faster, like Bartman I don't have too much time driving with it on yet.

What gains would there be on a truck with just tuning, exhaust and air intake/filter upgrades? I can definitely tell a difference in size, just wondering what the benefits would be in my case. Even though I've had this truck a couple years and been on here a few more, I'm still learning. Chris

D/AChris - You should see a bit more boost in the lower end because the new tube is larger and will allow more air into the CAC (intercooler), but if you really want colder more dense air and lower EGT's then you should consider installing the Techni-Cooler as well. I did both last weekend, I've been under the weather so I'll do a writeup later this week.

So you're saying the boost tube is worth the $175?

How much is that techni-cooler?

Yes, provided you have some tuner on your truck to take advantage of more air. Call or PM Jeff Barker at Banks for a combo deal .
