Looks like someone in the Gm-Trucks forum has figured it out. I haven't tried this, but it looks promising.... :)

http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=78031&st=30

I added blue tooth from an 09 to my 07. can get you the factory gm parts to add it to your gmt900 trucks. my cost at the dealer ship with the vcim, bluetooth antenna, and new buttons for the steering wheel with phone pictures on them is about $300.00 and it will have to be programmed. then it will work just like factory 09. all you need to have is factory onstar and steering wheel controls.
here are the parts you need to add factory bluetooth to your 07 or 08, sierra silverado, yukon, yukon xl, tahoe, suburban, acadia, and enclave.

vcim # 20783877
antenna # 15938939
steering wheel switch # 25851951

Woo Hoo! Finally. Thank you!
I've been waiting for a decent bluetooth set-up, one that I dont have to have all these aftermarket microphones and buttons and crap.

What am I suppose to do?

I have an 06 LBZ with the NON Bose head unit (I think) but bose speakers, onstar and steering wheel controls for onstar including the "phone" button.

Will this work for me?

Or what is my alternative to getting bluetooth in the truck and preferably on the steering wheel controls?

nobody else is interested in this??

c-mon gotta be more interest in this! I'm trying to figure out exactly what years this will work for... Would like to put something like this in my 05!!

It requires a new program from the dealership. I too want this in my 06 truck. The only thing is the NBS VCIM is different from our older body style. The Trailblazer/Envoy still uses the older class 2 communications and have bluetooth as an option for 09

Doogie99,

I am confused by your post. Are you saying that we need to purchase a radio and vcim from an 09 trialblazer (class 2 system) and install it in our truck? Then have it reprogrammed by the dealer and we to can have bluetooth?

GEMaffair,

It is my understanding on how some other people have hooked up the new OnStar unit to the New Body Style trucks that it in theory should work for us too. I am almost certain that the same body computer is used for the Trailblazer/Envoy as in our trucks. The same style steering wheel controls, radio, some a/c controls etc. So I would think that if I could get a hold of a OnStar unit from a Trailblazer or Envoy with the Bluetooth option it would only be a matter of pluging it in and haveing the truck reprogramed to recognise the new VCIM.

As I understand it the bluetooth functions are confined to the VCIM and that runs the signals for the steering wheel, and the number display on the DIC.

Again this is all therory based I have followed the mod for sometime gathering bits of info here and there. I have also followed people who have done the mod on their NBS 06+ trucks.

I personally do not have OnStar on my truck now, so I am much deeeeper into the mod than just pluging in a new VCIM. I have been trying to locate a harness that I can modify to get to work in my truck. However I am trying to locate a VCIM for my wife's 08 Equinox and do the upgrade for her as well.

Doogie99,

I have onstar and steering wheel controls, so if the theory works, then it should be a bit easier for me. But what I understand is that the 06 and older trucks use a different "data loop" named class 2 than the newer trucks which use something named "LAN" (I think) and that is what is preventing us from doing it. That is what caught my eye about your post. How do you know the 09 trailblazers are usign the old style networks?

GEMaffair,

Your right about the class 2 and the LAN system. GM does not upgrade all their technology across their build platform at once. It comes slowly, group by group. If you look at the dash setup, radio, steering wheel controls, a/c controls they are all similar. My biggest clue is the radio change, it hasn't. It still runs the class 2 system and if I were to guess they are either going to shut down the trailblazer envoy line or it will get a remodel here in the next year. But since I have not heard anything about it I would assume that that model is going away.

The class 2 plugs are different from the LAN plugs as well. This is why the VCIM from newer trucks will not work for our trucks. The older plug styles will still be on the Trailblazer/Envoy truck and if you are going to get it to work that will be the only VCIM that will work.

Like I said its theory but It should work.

Doogie99,

How do you know this? Do you look in the windows of the 09 trailblazers at the mall? Or visit the local dealer?

What is the oldest year they offer bluetooth (with class 2 radio) in a trailblazer/envoy, do you know?

If someone actually does this, and it works PLEASE let the rest of us know. I need something easier to use than a the FM modulator.

I spoke with a very knowledgeable source. He suggested that we actually go and use the 09 trailblazer bluetooth before investing money into the mods. He said his experience was that the Parrot system worked much better.

Can you get all the parts to convert the 07.5 and 08 to the 09 Blue tooth set up, is that what you are saying?
If you do not want to post publicly please send me a PM cause I might do it.

Will this same DCIM work in my 2004 Yukon XL Denali?

If you are telling me that I can also get bluetooth if I put in the 2009 Envoy ONSTAR/DCIM that's awesome.

Please let me know, also do you know if the dealer will put this DCIM in if I request it as part of the analog to digital DCIM upgrade?

One other thing, do I need the TNR NavRadio for this function to work? or will it work my current stock radio? I have the stock XM/FM/single CD head unit for 2004, NO NAV unit currently;

Thanks,
Tom

Has anyone successfully done this on this forum? I've glanced at the GM Trucks forum thread on the topic and just wanted to know if anyone on here had given it a try.

ttt Anyone done this yet. Looking to add Bluetooth to my 03 as well as my wife's 08 Equinox Sport

This is interesting...I will watch and subscribe to this thread.

Put a new VCIM in an '07.5 that has factory nav, and the Bluetooth feature does not "work".

The VCIM I obtained using a VIN from one of my '09s without NAV, so I'm left wondering.............

Is the VCIM flashed with the type of headunit it is to be used with???

Is the option even going to accessible with a Tech II as an '07.5 did not have the feature available???

I finally have operational bluetooth. The NAV in my '07.5 was running an '07 Nav disc, which did not have the firmware to run bluetooth. Now that I've updated the Navdisc, the bluetooth works perfectly. The '08 and earlier Navdiscs did not have the firmware to run the bluetooth.

Whoo hooo......It works perfectly with the above 3 parts and NO dealer programming. The Onstar is still offline, but I don't have a subscription active there anyhow.
