Urea injection
i see people talking about "urea injection" and i've seen it in some diesels magazines. it sounds like everyone is saying buy a new duramax before they add this...this may be a dumb question but what is urea injection exactly?

In simple terms: Urea injection uses a separate chemical tank to add urea to reduce emmisions. It's a chemical process where the urea bonds with particulates in the exhaust to make less harmful residue. It means that there will be a separate tank for the urea (I've heard that you can expect about 15k miles on a tankful). And no, I don't think you can pee in your urea tank to refill it.
I think Mercedes is already running a urea injection system and Honda is soming out with one.

So Urea is a chemical? And if a tank only last 15k miles how and where does one refill the tank? and and what cost is one going to have to pay to refill the tank?

Urea can be found in a few different forms. I'm not sure what form they plan on using. My guess is that you'll probably have to go into a dealer and have them refill the tank, or replace it if they go to a canister type. All I know is it better be under warranty if they do. Good thing I bought my truck before they decide to come out with this crap.
