I do agree with Cristopher that this cant be the cure-all everyone has been waiting for and everyone is jumping to conclusions seeing as there is no actual performance data. But, as an engineering student, a wide radius sweep for turbo inlet would make sense efficciency wise by removing restrictions. And whats more efficcient, generally makes more power
(although with diesel prices bending everyone over, I am more worried with economy nowadays)

Well, might be a good idea for someone to set up some dyno time to check this out.

This is what have seen. I installed TX's cai and later killer bees cai with fender scoop and worked over mouth piece. Driving solo on I-10 the passing power is much better and I was very suprised at the power from the cooler air.

The even better solution would be to go beyond stock components and get everything you can out of it.Chevman, I don't pitch my CAI to be better than SEVERAL other mods which also include a reasonable CAI, so your report is not suprising. Of all the other CAI designs out there the one KB sells is the only other one besides mine that truly makes a real effort to get actual cold air into the engine. Its really not a revelation though, because just like the LBZ mouthpiece its just taking GM parts from one model and putting them on another. That people pay for that amazes me. However, with all that said, I do guarantee that much greater results could have been gained for you for far less money than you spent on all that stuff to perhaps beat my $60 CAI kit. I would love to meet up with you and actually measure these "suprising" gains. ![]() Here is KB on his way to proving a truck does not overheat, I heard it did not overheat and the mission was declared a success! Holy Sh!t Son. Look Chris, theres only one thing that can be done here. You are gonna have to design and TEST a system utilizing a new turbo inlet of your own, and use my truck as the test mule. I dont wanna have to drive down the 45 min to Houston and get the free prototype installed, but it is whats best for The Diesel Place and all LLY owners. Ill take one for the team on this one guys .

TX no problems here either just telling what happened to our truck. KB is 30 miles from our winter home and you are not so close. chevman

I think the main subject of this post is getting blown out of proportion and misdirected. I haven't seen anyone say they're going to run out and buy KB's kit. (Certainly not me) Most of us are just interested in the possible benefit of changing the mouthpiece to enhance flow and maybe temps a little with a relatively easy mod. Let's please just focus on that.

Is it generally true, everything else being equal:
1. If the amount of heat the turbocharger creates in the charge air is decreased, the amount of heat the CAC sheds into the radiator is decreased, and 2. If the amount of heat the CAC sheds into the radiator is decreased, the amount of heat the radiator draws from the coolant is increased? It makes sense to me that a less restrictive turbocharger mouthpiece would indirectly result in reduced ECT. If I understand correctly, the subject kit consists of an OEM LBZ mouthpiece, OEM LLY intake tube and non-standard coupler. The mouthpiece and tube have been modified to allow bolt - on installation. FWIW, I'm considering installation of a LBZ mouthpeice; I just haven't decided if in the form of a complete LBZ intake system or KB's kit. ![]()

I am purchasing his kit! BTW, my local Chevy dealer is backordered on the LBZ Turbo MP and has no delivery time frame for the piece .... I priced out what it would cost me to buy the individual pieces, added up my fuel costs to pick everything up, factored in my time to retrofit everything (I don't own a dremel tool so I would need to buy that too) and decided to get the kit instead. I already have a modified CAI (see signature) and it has worked great on my truck (I have many runs of EFILIVE BBL showing live IAT of only 5 or so degrees above OAT ...)
