Okay I've been lurking for a long time but finally found a reason to post. So my 02 has the problem as stated above.

It doesn't matter the time of day, engine temp or anything. This is the second time it's done this (first time they never did diagnose it, only listed a few problems).

I read a few other posts that might be related stating an oil change but the oil is clean here. Our diesel mechanic suggested the security had been tripped (locked right before you turn the key to start, thus killing the fuel pump having to prime manually like if you ran out of gas).
However I've made certain that it always is unlocked and the security isn't set on since then.

So now I'm in a hard spot, supposed to leave tomorrow after work to go to the mountains with the ATV in the bed of the truck. However since it won't start now it's more than likely to stay right where it's at for Labor day:mad:.

Much help would be appreciated.

Seems like I read a post about a TSB on the fuel filter mount leaking or sucking air a while back. I'm assuming the bleeder screw is tight and sealing and you've probably changed the fuel filter. You might also want to spray the sensor in the intake tube just inside the air filter with contact cleaner. I've never had this issue but I've read where this caused starting problems. You might try a search on starting problems, see if anything turns up. Sorry I can't help more. Good Luck

Does it only happen after it has sat overnight, or does it also do it when it has just sat for a short time too? If it takes several hours, you have a slow leak, like a bad seal. I think Southern Bred was on to something with the fuel filter. You have an air leak somewhere, and this is the most likely place. I would go ahead and change the filter, make sure you lube all the seals up with vaseline, and tighten everything down good. If you have never changed the filter before, do a search on it. There are several threads that will give you tips to make the job easier.

Small update:
So I tried priming the pump hoping that would be the problem, but of course it wasn't.

Southern:
I'll check out the fuel filter but this will now all have to wait until Tuesday more than likely.

Timberwolf:
The first time it happened it was overnight, yesterday I took it out and parked it at around 3. Then tried to start it at around 9:30. The only wildcard is that maybe the cold front that moved in (dropped roughly 25-35 degrees) but I seriously doubt that as well.

Thanks for the helpful hints and advice, if you all think of anything else I'd appreciate it. But there's probably not much more I can do.

When you prime with the pump does it get hard?
