I was at a party tonight and some of us were talking about trucks and I stated that I would love to get a Dually whenever I purchace a 5er trailer but I didn't want to have to buy a new truck right after a new trailer again. I was told by the host who is a body man and a backyard mechanic that I should be able to convert my truck with parts to a dually for far less then a new truck after my warranty. Is this possable?

Yes. I believe the sell some sort of conversion the pretty much bolts right on making the SRW into a DRW. Then you'd just need to attatch a skin to get proper coverage and youd be all set. I dont know where Im pulling this number out of, but for some reason I recall the whole job being possible for somewhere around $1200.

Thanks I may consider it if the skin is of good quality

chromewheel.com (http://chromewheel.com/fiberglass.htm) may be what you are looking for.

Isn't the rear axle different on the duallies? I think they are narrorwer than the single wheels. For obvious reasons. I would look into that. Also, the lug studs will have to be changed to go through both wheels. If you try and put duals on a single wheel axle, I think you will be past the 102 inch width law. I not 100% sure on that, but I think that is the way it is.

Why do you want to go to dual wheels? I have not had any problems with mine and I am at my gross combined weight.

The regular dually rear axle is wider than the SRW rear axle.

The 3500 3500SRW rear axle and the 3500 chassis-cab standard rear axle: approx. 66" wide

The regular 3500 dually rear axle and the 3500 chassis-cab optional GTY rear axle: approx. 74" wide.

The chassis cab frame rail spacing is narrower, allowing dual rear wheels with the 66" rear axle.

If you put dual rear wheels on the back of a SRW without using spacers to approximate the extra width of the dually axle, the tires will rub the springs. But even with the wider axle, it wouldn't be anywhere near the 102" width limit.

I just wanted the dualie rear for a more stable platform for the 5er weight. But I doubt I will do anything. Looks like the dualie looses some of the off road capabilities.

Wonder if the folks that make the single wheel setup for semi trucks have same for a pick up? This would allow you to run an extra wide rear tire, approximating the width of the duals. Just a thought
