: 265's that will last for towing heavy
JD Diesel 09-01-2006, 06:18 PM Need some advice from you all that tow heavy 5er's with 265 75 16 tires. And don't say nitto's 8000 mile's on tire's. 2000 of it towing. Yes rotated twice. Only about 25% left. Not real happy with them. No I don't ricky race or do burn out's. No power adder's. Just normal style driving. Don't mind spending the money, but jezzz should last longer than 8 month's right. Thanks JD:cool:
hemisareslow 09-01-2006, 06:25 PM I believe the pro comp A/T have a 50k warrenty with them...look to be a nice tire...and are available in load range E in a 265 size....they will be my next tire....after I am done beating on my pro comp M/T
Terrain Twister 09-02-2006, 12:42 AM I got over 50k out of the Revo's I had mounted. the only reason I'm running the Uniroyal's know was $$$$ saved but these seam to be holding up just as well as the Revo's. I can honestly say that 15-20% of the time the trailer is hooked up to it. Pin weight exceeds 3000#'s most of the time.
Heartbeat Hauler 09-02-2006, 01:16 AM If you want a long lasting towing tire for the highway, the Michelin LTX M/S is hard to beat for longevity. Make sure it's "E" rated.

dmax35 09-02-2006, 07:01 AM Pretty hard to beat BFG E rated tires or Cooper.
rigwatcher 09-02-2006, 03:00 PM yes BFG rugged trail ..thats whats on my company truck. 50 000 km on a 03 cummins 1 ton sw with a deck (and about 3000lb of equipment).
GMC-2002-Dmax 09-02-2006, 03:23 PM TOYO AT's - load range "E" in a 265,
Quiet and a great tire overall.

violatedppl 09-04-2006, 02:58 AM my dad runs general grabber at's on our f350 PSD. Mainly all towing of a 27 ft TT loaded pretty good. ites are still in great shape prob have 20,000 miles on them. after having two firestones go bad within a week, one blow out and another the tread came off. Anything is better than those tires IMHO. But like others said besure to get load range E
Thankful 09-04-2006, 09:17 AM As soon as my stock tires wear out, I'm going with the Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor 265's load E. And 265 E's will handle a larger load that 245 E's

txguppy 09-04-2006, 09:55 AM My Cooper ST/C's have worn very little in 15k miles. Not too heavy towing, but some. BTW, be sure to air those puppies up to recommended pressures.

How noisy are they on the freeway?
txguppy 09-04-2006, 02:26 PM Not noisy at all. There is some howl at 45-50 mph, but above that nada.

Another satisfied customer here!!
marcdeluca 09-05-2006, 08:14 AM Consider the Bridgestone R250. It is an all steel commercial tire, highway rib. Probably a bit over $200 per.
tmg115 09-05-2006, 08:54 AM i have about 15000 on my pro comp tires and they are still looking new. mine are 315's though.
also my old set was BF goodwrench tires and they sucked. i got about 20,000 miles out of them and they were bald. i mean bald. that had to be one of the worst tires i have ever owned.

Blue Max 09-05-2006, 01:13 PM I ran my Michelins for 80K and they still had a little left in them-
Wardster 09-05-2006, 02:47 PM My Michelin LTX-MS tires have over 70K on them and they are just into the replacement indicators. They ran me about $900 when I bought them.
Duromax04 09-05-2006, 06:22 PM Michelin LTX M+S LRE. That tire will give you great mileage, super quiet ride, and will carry the load. They are spendy, but they cost out in the end. Just like a diesel. Costs more upfront, but if you run them long enough will save you in the end.
bigpower 09-05-2006, 08:08 PM I towed for the first time with my Cooper s/t after taking off the factory tires and what a difference size is 265/75-16 10ply.
big truck big power 09-05-2006, 09:52 PM Cooper discover H/T 265/75/r16 E rated.
tuney443 09-06-2006, 08:50 AM Factory Bridgestone Duravis M773II's--only 2K miles so far but they handle great,no noise at all,and were great pulling my RV trailer to the Jersey shore this past weekend.Pretty serious tread pattern for an O/O road tire, especially coming from GM.While I'm here--still looking for the factory 16x7 chrome wheels that only come on a 3500SRW with the crew cab.Anybody know where I might be able to catch a good deal if I have to buy them new?
Towsaboat 09-06-2006, 10:02 PM Just replaced a set of BFG All Terrain T/A s 285/75 16s that were put on my Gasser in Jan of 99. Lasted 63,000 Miles and still had tread left, just old age on the tire and steering problems I'm still trying to solve. Not heavy hauling since it's only a half ton.
Replaced them with 265/75-16 Michelin LTX-ATs and there is a definite ride difference, for the better. Haven't had them off road yet, but they are smoother and quieter. Went smaller since I noticed a big performance loss with the bigger tire against 3.42 gears..... just not enough grunt with the old small block.
Michelin LTX M+S LRE. That tire will give you great mileage, super quiet ride, and will carry the load. They are spendy, but they cost out in the end. Just like a diesel. Costs more upfront, but if you run them long enough will save you in the end.
I went with AT's vs the M+S on the recommendation of the shop since they said they had a higher load rating, but the truck is used for light duty hauling and as my daily driver that is left at the airport for days on end. Maybe they just didn't carry the D or E range
Did they steer me wrong?
056600 09-07-2006, 02:44 PM I agree with Heartbeat Hauler and the others on going with the LTX's, I had great results on my '03 HD with them. I put the Goodyear Silent Armor on my '05 Load range E, and I was very happy with the wear I got out of them but someone must have been drunk when they named them "silent" they were definitely louder than the LTX's.
chinook47 09-08-2006, 12:18 AM Check signature. Just rotated tires for 2nd time and checked depth. Have about 22,000 miles so far with about 5000 miles towing about 23,000#'s GCW. The 2 tires that have been on the rear while towing are down to 9/32 of an inch, the other 2 are down to 11/32. Tire Rack says they start life at 16/32. So, I have used 57% of the life of 2 tires and 44% of the other 2 (needing to replace at 2/32). So, in about 20,000 miles or so I'll be replacing the 2 most worn.
Will be going on an 8,000 mile trip soon towing my 5er, so, I'll have more info in a couple of months. Love the tires, good handling and ride. Have picked up a bit of road hum on certain surfaces that I don't believe was there before. At least when I shut the engine off the hum is still there. I have done all the preventive maintenance in preperation for the trip and have found nothing wrong. 61, 385 miles to date and going strong.

there are 3 versions in the LTX lineup. There is the A/S, M+S, and the A/T
The first two, come in LRE in the 265/75R16, and the A/T's only come in LRC
Don't ask me why they do it that way, but they do. I put 265/75R16 A/T's on my max, and didn't realize they were way underated until I got home. I like the tire, but I can't haul huge loads with it. Luckily, I never do, so it is not an issue. I pull a gooseneck flatbed, but I just put whatever is on there over the trailer tandems and take the weight off the hitch.
If you put them on a 1/2 tonner, then you will be fine. The will wear like iron. My Dad puts the A/T on his farm truck after the OE tires wear out, and he gets 90 to 100K on them and trades the truck with them on it. He has the 245/75R16 which does come in the LRE or 10ply. Go figure. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. He runs a lot of gravel, and still does that good on mileage.
JD Diesel 09-10-2006, 02:39 AM Well from the way it sounds,it seems that the michelin LTX's have it. Thanks much...... JD:cool2:
juniorcruzer 09-10-2006, 11:11 AM I just had a set installed on my truck after talking with a buddy who farms and uses them on his truck. He is on his second set, got over 100K on the first set and he pulls farm trailers and works the hell out of the truck. So I was sold.

whooboy 09-10-2006, 08:30 PM Michelin LTX M/S. The only way to go. It's only been said on these posts about a thousand times.
