Hope this is the right forum. For all of us in California Sept 1 is when they plan to have the new ULSD (ULTRA LOW SULFUR DIESEL ) on the market. Is this still in effect? I know Stanadyne is coming out with a new ULSD formula but no one knows what the long term effect will be on our Engines especially the Pre 07 models. I have not seen much in the way of post on this problem. Google ULSD and there is a lot to read.

Guess will see....tomorrow or so.
Are you running any additives now?
BTW, what are you cross streets in Corona?

Just came across this:
"EPA announced that it will extend the transition period for retail diesel outlets to provide ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD) from September 1 to October 15, 2006. During this time, the sulfur limit for on-highway diesel fuel is 22 ppm; the 15-ppm requirement goes into effect October 16, 2006."

So for all practical purposes ULSD starts Sept 1 in california. LSD is 500ppm, I suspect the 22 ppm limit is because there is still enough old fuel/contaminates in the distribution pipepline that the ULSD entering the line is picking up a few ppm by the time it gets to the fuel distributors and EPA is just giving a few more weeks to get it flushed out.

Bodysurfer. Yes I run Stanadyne Performance Formula. I have E-mailed Stanadyne about the old formula that I still have ( about 6 bottles ) they say it's OK to run the old formula just add a little more to help lubricate the engine more. My fuel tank being only 26 gal. I run 8 oz. of Stanadyne per tank which they say will treat a 30 gal. I try and buy fuel when I am at 1/4 of a tank so as not to pick up any nasty stuff that may be in the bottom. I do not think this is over kill just being cautious.
As luck would have it all 8 injectors had been replaced last week. I hope this new ULSD will not cause more problems with our injectors with the lower lubricant factor. This guarantees that we will all need to run some type lubricant every tank full.

Do we even know for sure that the new fuel will offer less lubricity? Meijer already puts additives in their fuels. Maybe everyone else will start doing the same. I can't imagine that they would change a fuel formulation that would ruin every single vehicle made before a certain time period.

Timberwolf. Yes they are adding lubricants but as for myself I will not take any chances with my expensive truck. No one is sure of the long term effects this new ULSD will have on our engines better safe than sorry.

I know this, I filled up for the first time w/ULSD and I lost all of my power! the truck seems to be quieter, but no smoke, and the truck just seems to act like I don't even have the edge on it.

Yep and I bet your truck will explode before you reach 3/4 of a tank thanks to ULSD.
