thats a gas motor style filter. I hope thats not the filter that was recommended for the diesel. i know even K&N have 2 different filters. 1 for gas 1 for diesel.

I purchased their filter for our duramax soon after I purchased my truck, I believe it was the first air filter change I did in a hurry, ran into the autozone and bought one. After about a month I took a look at it and discovered the orange foam gasket seperated from the pleats, and allowed unfiltered air into the engine. I have no idea how long unfiltered air was going into my motor, but I will NEVER NEVER purchase a fram product again.
Want an even better laugh, go to the auto parts store and pull one of the Fram oil filters out of a box for our DMax. Try putting a strap wrench on that can, it's about as sturdy as an empty beercan. Do they even care if their products perform? If they put as much $ into thier product development as they do advertising they might have a chance.

Regardless of the poor quality filter, that thing should have been replaced at least twice in 30K miles...

The fram filter I installed had the glue on it (same as the delco on right) so I'm guessing the one on the left is for the gas truck. Explains why it got sucked in.

i have a question on the k&n filters. my uncle previously had a 03 1500hd 4x4. well he had just the replacement k&n filter in it. when he bought this new 05 2500hd dmax, he replaced the factory filter with the same one he had in the 03 gasser. is that wrong? what could happen? please let me know asap, so i can tell him. i dont mean to take over this thread, but that info popped up, and i would like to find out. thanks

What I see that was the wrong filter to begin with. I run Fram and have no prolblems, BUT 30K miles. Maybe 10K at the most!!:)

Frams products in general, from the opinion of almost everyone I have talked to, is that they are a complete joke. Ditto on their oil filters. They are only advertisement hyped up filters with mediocre performance.

Unless one of the experts here on the Diesel Place has an answer..... Check with K&N supplier or tech help from the Mfg.

OK guys..... Enough beating me up for my excess mileage on the air filter. :idiot:

But we live in Northern CA by the coast were the air is so pure that the angels breathe it. :exactly:

I have had poor experiences with FRAM as well. In a bind we used one on my buddys chevelle which is a quick car, but still streetable. Half way through the first blast with the car, it lost oil pressure so we had to shut it down. Turns out that the oil filter media actually collapsed and wouldnt allow any measureable flow. Took a little white to figure out that it was the oil filter because the casing wasnt effected. Threw on a delco filter and off we went...with oil pressure and all.

Just wash-n-rinse and she'll be good as new :) You should send that to Fram and tell them it made your truck feel like a piece of chit!

K&N calls for the same filter on gas and diesel.:ro)

JMHO: oiled filters are junk :badidea: and only cause problems. most people put to much oil or not enough on these and end up with problems down the road.

Whether or not the K&N's are the same fiter between the two trucks, I think you'll find that most on this forum do not have a very high opinion of K&N. Do a search on air filters for the study that was done a while back. I thought it was done fair and unbiased. The best fiter out there was the OEM. Why would your uncle pay all that money for a new truck and skimp on the air filter?

because years ago with all the k&n stuff being 'bad a**', so everybody said, he went with it. i had one on my '92 1500, but that is the only truck i ever bought one for. i have a true flow on my truck right now. i like it. i will talk him out of that k&n soon hopefully. thanks for all the advice, opinions, and help.

k&n replacement filter:confused: you mean the permanent replacement right? i could be wrong but if its the same size you should be fine. k&ns are all the same design

read this post and went out and checked my fram air filter with about eight thousand miles on it, one corner had started deforming and had torn the glue strip loose. it now has an ac on it, no more frams for me either.

Stock ACDelco is the best overall filter to use. Do a search for SPICER's air filter test results to see for yourself.
