So I am wondering who has burned up their engine with too high EGTs. I am wondering b/c I went camping with my friend this weekend and he was driving his 03 GMC 2500HD, stock exhaust, superchips at 50hp setting, and with a GCVW of ~23,000. We pulled several hills in 80 degree weather crossing the cascade range in Oregon. One was ~15 - 20 minutes at WOT with a max speed of 45 - 55 mph.

I mean if this will not burn up an engine what will?

20 minutes at WOT? holy smokes. Might want to look into a box that has some protection features like the edge with attitude.

The turbo shaft will start making noise first. It will make a bubbling sound when you first turn if off before to goes, or a high piched whine will be emitting while running. Never heard of cooked pistons yet. The head will most likely be the most durable in this situation. It has constant coolant flowing through it to wick the heat a way from it and the valves. I don't know how the valve stem seals survive though. When those go, you you will get some white smoke when you start it up and for a short distance of running before it clears up (extreme cases my be worse) from the oil being able to seep past and getting in to the combustion chamber and or the exaust manifold and burning. It is also possible for the rings on the pistons to let this happen too from them being trashed as well. Protect your investment, get a Pyro meter. The truck will thank you with miles of trouble free running. Super Diesel
