The Avalanche has grown on me, especially the one without the plastic. I would have bought one in a second, still would if GM offered it. How about you guys?

Myself no. I pull a fifth wheel. It would be cool though! I find a lot of people still really don't like the avalanche.

You should buy one Mike and swap bodies. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

I would have bought one. It would be nice to have a full size crew cab that would fit in a standard garage.

THESE ARE THE SPECS ON THE 2004 MODEL;

The standard features of the Chevrolet Avalanche 2500 Base include 8.1L V-8 320HP engine, 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes (ABS), airbag occupancy sensor, air conditioning, 16" alloy wheels, cruise control, four-wheel drive, 6 way power driver seat, power mirrors, and power windows.

I would think of getting one for the wife if it had a D/A in it.

Uh, No.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Throw Up.gif though I'll concede that the deplasticed version is an improvement.

Duramax in a Suburban, probably would.

D-max Yukon XL http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif Where do I sign?

if it was a tall as the hd's then yeah in a second, that was my other choice but the funds allowed for the duramax and the mileage was a bonus so i went with the p/u instead

No, but a Duramax H2 would be nice...

Yeah, probably would have if it was one WITHOUT the body armour crap. Duramax H2, YEP would have been my 1st choice. Dmax was the reason I purchased the angry chinaman! Don't need the heavy duty like most everyone else on here, just want a motor and tranny that keeps on rolling and that I don't have to keep worrying about....

I also like the "is that diesel running?" question I keep getting with my LLY...

traded 2002 tnf avalanche for my dmax, I loved the avalanche but hated the fuel economy and hi rpms towing my 28 aruba dbs. I towed this past week 1000 miles with dmax, great power - did not even know the trailer was there other than lower fuel economy but still better than gas and $0.30 cheaper per gallon.

Check out this month's Four Wheel magazine with the Avalanche on the cover. Inside you'll find an article about a gentleman that has built a Duramax Surburban. He'll build you either a Surburban or Avalanche but you'll be getting it without a warranty and with a salvage title.

And I would seriously consider a Duramax Avalanche. I came very close to going with an Avalanche 2500 but decided I wanted the better power and mileage. Make it a GMC Avalanche so I can get the nicer grill (to my taste) and out comes my checkbook!:-)

Friend of mine got the 2500/8.1L, it has more than enough power to do what he wants, but he does bitch about the mileage alot. Raced him with my max and he got me (but not bad), would have been worse if he got traction, I got turbo lag--he got lack of traction. I said wait till I get the juice, he's getting a power programmer, there will be a rematch!

I drive a 2500HD and the wife has an Avalanche. I drive a truck and she has the tall 4wd LaSabre. Two very different vehicles, not interchangable, regardless of engine.

The Av has the cladding, it was the wife's choice, the look does grow on you, kinda like fungus......

You guys are really funny!
The Avalanche WBH (without body hardware) looks to 90 % like the Silverado only the back is little shorter. The Crewcab is just 11 inches longer, the rest is the same. Same doors, same front, hood, bumper...This doens't apply to frame, chassis...engine, but talking about the design its almost identical.
The Avalanche with all the cladding looks more futuristic, of course not everybody likes that...the Silverado evolved from the AV frontdesign and again aside from the plastic the Silverado looks very similar...
Needless to say the Silverado, Sierra...looks 99.99 % on the same inside (the AV has the extra feature of adjustable foot pedals which is nice). I like the AV as well as the Silverado and Sierra and I really wished they would put the duramax in the AV from the factory. The 2500 version of the AV is comparable to the 2500 version of the Silverado (but not HD) but is only available with the 8.1 ltr. gasser since GM cannot produce enough dmaxes the put them into the other trucks...

I wouldn't have bought one myself.. i still think they are ugly. But that's why i ran out and bought a 2002 when i saw what the 2003's Chevy's looked liked.. In time it may grow on me, but it hasn't happened yet!
