I was told and then read, that according to NHRA, any vehicle using a non-factory power adder, the driver is required to have an SFI approved fire jacket!! That means that any diesel running nitrous will now require a jacket!! Whats up with that?

You guys probably knew this already, but I just found out and didn't realize. It also means that all those pesky turbo honda drivers need jackets now also, regardless of how slow they go!!

Haven't been told this yet. I've got a jacket, but I rarely wear it.

From what I heard it came from a Vette catching fire on the line running nitrous.

Jegs sells them pretty cheap.

If you run faster than 14.99 you have to wear a helmet and to my knowledge if you run 11.50 or faster you have to wear a jacket-a single layer jacket not a multilayer..i have to wear multilayer pants and a jacket because i run faster than 9.99

I don't know if it's only Jersey, but regardless if you run 20 seconds, you need a helmet. The new jacket rule has no ET or MPH associated with it. If you run a power adder you need one. But like Kat said they are pretty cheap. At 11.499 you need a roll bar (6pt only req'd) also, probably among other things. 9.99 must req. a ton of things including what, a 10pt cage? I know they are serious at that speed, plus you also need to take a license test right?

And nitrous isn't even flammable, go figure!! Just because it does a little oxidizing now and then......jeez. And how the heck is a roots supercharger any more prone to a fire than w/o one? It seems like a silly rule, but I guess it doesn't hurt to wear a jacket anyway.

I was told by a tech inspector, that because I run twin turbo's, that he considered that a non-factory power adder, and I would need to wear a jacket. It's not really an issue, but I am racing at the Division 6 bracket finals next week, and plan on talking with the Division 6 tech inspector, to see what there feeling is.

So according to the NHRA rule book, you don't need a jacket until you go 13.99 or quicker. Unfortunately, Englishtown's website does not designate an ET, which I assume means that they want it for any ET. Which agrees with what the tech inspector told me also.

Thanks for the clarification!! :)

Tracks are able to mandate safety requirements sooner that what NHRA mandates.
Example; NHRA wants a parachute on any car faster than 150mph. Some tracks require it sooner, like around 120, as they may have short shutdown areas...
