I'm looking for a powered tongue jack for the camper, as the freebie that was given to us quit this weekend. Any suggestions as to size or manufacturers? The camper is 35', about 8,000 lbs.

Thanks,

Mark

I have an Atwood on mine. It's rated for 2500 lbs tongue weight. Works well. I think is was about $200 or less.

Went to the shop to pick up a 200 mile tow for the company. The units they use for the trailers they build are made by Barker Manufacturing of Battle Creek, Michigan. I deal with maybe 50+ of them each year and have yet to see a problem. If I've had to make any adjustments it was easy and they seem well-made. These trailers vary from 36 ft. to 43ft. long and weigh 8 to 12,000lbs. Tongue weights have been as high as 1,600 lbs with no strain on the unit. They also have a real good manual override built in.

These Barkers' are 3000 lb. models, if I remember correctly. They also have a light in the head and a 'secret' shut-off that may or may not be from Barker. My guess is the trailer manufacturer I deliver for adds them but I'm not sure.

I can swear by the Barker 3500 jack. The trailer has 1200# tongue weight, the rear axle weighs 2800# empty, add 400# bike loader and 900# motorcycle. The trailer jack can pick BOTH REAR TIRES OFF THE GROUND!!! I kid you not. The only problem with the jack is that it uses a lot of electrical power to run it. It takes a 30 amp fuse and pulls the marine/RV deep cycle battery down quite a bit. But boy does it have the power.

I also have the Barker 3500# power jack. But I have never had a problem with it draining the battery. The price on these are way up north of $200. I think it was $270-$290.

It sure make lite work of putting the stabilizer bars on.

i believe skater uses barkers on all there trailers and the one on our 9k lbs race boat works like a charm every time an its been on sine 95 and the old race boat trailer (now a 170mph pleasure boat) has been going strang since 93 and the only maint. they have required is charging the on trailer battery and battery replacement every few years

i wish it was a law that all trailers came with electric jacks, because after jacking 25-50' boats up and down at least 20 times a day will get real tiring

Barker 3500 is a really good way to go, does use some juice though but an awesome unit; replaced my Atwood 3000 after 1 year, just plain could not handle the weekly use of hooking and unhooking a 10,000 lb trailer and 1200 lbs of tongue weight. Think price might of have been around $250; check CampingWorld.com as a starting point.
