Well... You can say sh_t happens or Murphy's Law rules but the following story is not going to be happy...
Not even two weeks after having had that problem:
http://dieselplace.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9594&PN=1
I had a sizeable tow to do (14,000lbs) on the same route I do every time. I allways tow between 12,000 and 16,000 lbs every 2 weeks on a 1200 miles drive there and back.
During the preceeding days, I noticed a few drops of oil comming from under the engine but I tought they were leftovers from the previous problem stuck on the skidplates because the engine oil level was ok.
About halfway in my 600 miles trip while waiting for the ferry, I noticed a somewhat bigger leak than just a few leftover drops. A closer look revealed that it was tranny fluid dripping happilly. Checked the level... About 3 quarts where missing. I stopped a few km later in a garage and added some fluid. In the next major village, I stopped in a diesel shop to have the tranny checked a little. The mechanic said that that it was leaking from the torque converter and would probably get worse. I noticed, while in the pit witch the mechanic, that the vent tube was venting quite alot but didn't make a case out of it. I added 1-2 quarts of tranny fluid and got on my way. I wanted to stop at the next GM Dealership about an hour away. There was about 1/4 left in my fuel tank... more tan enough to continue. Checked the engine oil level and I was ok but "clearer" that usual on the dipstick.
Not even 15 minutes in the 1 hour trip that would have put me to the next GM Deakership, my "Low fuel" signal comes on... That was mighty fast I said to myself. I noticed that my oil pressure was somewhat low. And 5 minutes laters... The engine dies from lack of fuel. The next garage was 25 minutes away. I called them to have them deliver fuel. They got to me but as I was priming my filter, I noticed that fuel was dripping from under as fast as I was priming... Connected the dots toghether... Vented tube venting like an exaust, low oil pressure, clearer didstick reading... = fuel in oil...
I decided to be prudent and left everything there truck and trailer. The closest GM dealership was full and they told me that they could "look" at my truck in 7 to 9 days at best. So I decided to have the truck and 14,000 lbs trailer towed to the dealership I bought my truck from wich was also the final destination of the load I was carrying. That dealer had time for me on the next business day. Almost 700$ and 5 hours later, I was there. It was midnight on a friday so I will have to wait until monday to know a little bit more.
So here you have it. Tranny dripping oil from the convertor and fuel in crankcase dripping from somewhere at the same time. What are the odds of that...
Looked a little on the board for some info. There seems to be a TSB for similar symptoms on the tranny and the fuel in oil could be related to the injectors but it's still early to tell.
Will know a little more tommorow I hope.Edited by: Maxter
